The owners of this stunning Irvington estate on a 5-acre site sloping down to the Hudson commissioned us to design a guest cottage for their aging parents. They sought something modest in scale but with luxurious finishes inside and out, like a "jewel box." The guest house design features a two-car garage below grade, a turret with circular stair, an elevator, a great room with terrace views, a master suite with adjacent caretaker bedroom and bath, as well as river view balconies. The style of the guest cottage complements the existing house seamlessly, including slate roof, custom-aged and weathered bricks, mahogany windows and doors, and plaster finishes. MLA worked closely with the landscape architect to bridge a connection between the existing residence, the new guest house, and the gardens and terraces throughout.
