Collective Habitat (COOPER UNION PORTFOLIO)

Program:  five floor-through apartments, each with accommodation for a family of two adults and two children, live-work space, one-and-a-half baths, roof garden (green roof) with children’s play space, small coffee shop on first floor with separate entrance.

Apartment units are organized on one of two floor plate types, each providing small terraces that look onto either 2nd Street or Houston Street.  Regulated front facade gives way to modulated back facade, each contributing to the vernacular building types on either face of the thin block.  Tenant access to the central communal core is provided from both street-fronts, slipping behind the two-storey cafe on the Houston side.
