500 Boylston Street

When Bergmeyer was tasked with transforming the lobby of 500 Boylston Street, an underutilized and dated space in a prominent office building in Boston’s back bay, we aimed to surpass conventional expectations. Bergmeyer's goal was to create an inviting and functional environment that would resonate with the diverse tenant mix and elevate the building’s overall appeal. Bergmeyer’s proactive engagement and thorough site assessment impressed Oxford Properties, who appreciated our balance of functional and aesthetic improvements. Through extensive collaboration with the client and the use of 3D modeling and renderings throughout the process, we ensured every detail met their vision. A vital part of the design process revolved around catering to the needs of the varied tenant mix, from traditional law firms to innovative tech companies, promoting community building and tenant interaction.

The primary objectives for the 500 Boylston Street lobby were to provide flexible work and lounge options, modernize the interior while respecting historic finishes, and enhance the tenant experience with added amenities. Our design approach included minimal demolition, strategic relocation of the security desk for better visibility, and the introduction of touchdown spaces with power outlets and private seating booths with floor-to-ceiling glass.

Bergmeyer transformed the lobby into a modern, amenity-rich environment. The new design emphasizes the importance of amenitizing office spaces to meet contemporary expectations, creating a functional and beautiful environment that serves as an attractive alternative to traditional office settings. We carefully selected materials to fuse the old with the new, maintaining the iconic, rich green marble while incorporating Venetian plaster, wood, fluted glass, and terrazzo to add contemporary touches. Upholstered seating, walnut millwork, and canvas artwork were introduced to improve acoustics and add soft textures to the expansive space. The corridor connecting 500 Boylston to 222 Berkeley was also renovated with new wall finishes, terrazzo flooring, and updated lighting.

The 500 Boylston Street renovation exemplifies Bergmeyer’s commitment to creating inclusive spaces that are equally as beautiful as they are functional, enhancing the tenant experience and fostering a more intentional sense of community for all to enjoy.
