Winner of DCJ 2020 Top Projects in the Senior Living category is a bright new addition to an historic Oregon community.
The new Village at Mary’s Woods in Lake Oswego development connects the Mary’s Woods community in Lake Oswego with a brand new expansion that includes independent and assisted living, wellness amenities and public retail space in nine buildings adjacent to Highway 43 on the east side of the 40-acre campus, which was originally founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1859 as the order’s first establishment in North America outside Canada.
The Village at Mary’s Woods project, began an integrated design process involving collaboration with the Mary’s Woods at Maryhurst and its founders - the Sisters of the Holy Names along with multiple consulting disciplines and the pre-construction partner. The goal was to conceive a cohesive architecture and place through informed choices based on the Owner’s original vision and values, programmatic requirements, cost, sustainability goals, urban plan functionality and connectivity. Teamwide collaboration depended on an organized flow communication /dialogue within and without design and construction teams. Sharing development with future residences and the community are large to try to meet most needs as well as manage expectations.
Collaboration included not only with the design and realization teams but the regulatory agencies as well to maintain a flow of communication and organization ensuring fluidity of project development all the way through inspections. Permit submittals and Certificate of Occupancy Inspections coordination included with early meetings with the City to identify phased plans and schedule for submittals and building delivery respectively.
