In the fall of 2003, the University of Connecticut aspired to build a state-of-the art higher education facility unlike any other in the country. The university was looking for a facility that could catapult it to the top of the list of the nations elite business schools and forge the trend of experimental learning where students interact and experiment with live, real world data.
Less than a year later, the UCONN SS&C Technologies Financial Accelerator was complete. Designed as a replica of the New York Stock Exchange, the facility is replete with the latest business and financial services technology, high-tech classrooms and meeting spaces.
In order to increase the school’s visibility within downtown Hartford, two large electronic display boards, similar to those in Times Square, were located on a high visibility street corner leading into the space. Inside, the facility includes a first floor live trading floor with real-time stock feeds projected on two 130-foot long tickers and two 12x16 foot flat screen monitors displaying streaming video of the latest business news.
