North Branford’s libraries had not been expanded or renovated in at least 40 years, and the need for space had become an issue. Schoenhardt was chosen to design renovations and additions to both libraries, located within a National Historic District, as well as to make sure that each was ADA-accessible. In addition to the reorganization of the site, the original building was renovated and a new addition was designed doubling the building area to approximately 15,500sf. The new addition was designed with new structures creating an harmonious composition reflecting the scale and style of the original building. The interior was opened up and fenestrated to create large, inviting open spaces with natural light. New systems, finishes and furniture was designed to serve the library for many years to come.
