Intended to serve as an accent piece in a living room, this coffee table concept is an exploration in form suited for a multitude of uses. The particular household that this piece was designed for asked that not only should the table provide a surface to place objects on but to also serve for other uses such as a place to sit during hosted gatherings and as a hiding space for their household cat.
To address this particular request, a vaulting strategy was introduced to not only introduce a structural aesthetic, but to also provide volumetric micro spaces that a cat could use to maneuver through. Along with these carved volumes within the mass of the table, a subtle bend is applied to the tabletop surface to delineate between seating and placing.
