Architect & Exclusive Assistant @ ERKAL ARCHITECTURE
Total 39,650 m2-426,787 sq ft
As the only assistant working on this project other than the lead architects Filiz & Coskun Erkal, I had the advantage of learning all about working documentation directly from the lead architects through practice under their supervision
The project was composed of 6 reinforced concrete blocks designated as A1, A2, A3 and B , main building with classrooms and laboratories; and C and D buildings with rooms for the professors. Currently all are erected except the D Block.
In the first phase, contractor was planning to build only A1 and C blocks and use them immediately in order to finish by the coming education year. I worked on the first 4-6 months generally overtime, to complete the first phase construction drawings on time with engineer coordinations and tender documentation. Later while working on the other blocks, construction began and I supported the site contractor with additional construction drawings when needed.
Inside a total of around 35.000sqm:
Classrooms and laboratories for the various departments of the Faculty, spaces for the academicians and administrators, cafeteria and recreation areas, conference halls.. etc As the project consists of rich detailings of reinforced concrete structures with interior galleries, bridges; composite structures and special spaces such as auditoriums, it was possible to learn all related details, insulations, finishings and overall engineering requirements.
The project was chosen as a finalist of Chamber Of Architects National Architectural Award in Building Branch, in 2004.
