This project entails the replacement of the light facade of the Rochas building at 33 rue Francois Ier by another light facade made of glass and plated stone. To avoid altering the structure, fittings and functions of the existing building, the facade must correspond to its partitioned walls, pillars, floors and heating systems. The body of the building is divided into three orders of two levels, freeing the glass bays that are essential to the partitioned offices. A thick, horizontal band separates the upper floors of the building from the retail space on the ground floor which has been raised to a double height that is visually conducive to the structure’s weight transfer. The architectural language is intentionally subdued and hardly Expressionist, a break from the style of the existing facade. A refined and elegant aesthetic has been developed for all of facade’s details.
