La Muralla Roja points unmistakeably to Mediterranean vernacular sources, especially the colourful casbahs of North Africa, from Tanger to Essaouira. This modern labyrinth has a precise, geometric Greek-cross plan with 5-metre-long arms grouped in various ways, featuring service towers (kitchens and bathrooms) at the points of intersection. The geometric basis of the layout is also an approximation to the theories of constructivism, which La Muralla Roja evokes.
