This research of over 50 pages is an elaborate historical urban analysis of Leiden. As of 1896 Leiden has grown exponentially outside of its city limits. How/why did these expansions happen and why do they look the way they do.
After 1896 there are 5 clearly different architectural styles visible. The most obvious urban changes have been the post 2nd World War area in the South West, the brainshaped area (Merenwijk) and the self-build area (Nieuw Leyden).
The conclusions have helped me to understand the gradual historic formation of our cities and their neighborhoods in which we design buildings.
