Vipassana is a design build project for a meditation retreat center.
The summer studio consisted of twelve students, one serving
as our construction supervisor. The studio began with a design
charrette to initiate ideas for the program and function.
The project is located on a dense site just outside Houston in Willis, Texas.
The timeframe consisted of five weeks for construction with design
meetings every evening. The structural piers were poured
prior to our arrival, allowing for an immediate launch. Our
scope of work consisted of design, construction, and exterior finish-
out. The landscaping, Interior finish-out, and MEP was completed
under a seperate contract. The projects overall master
plan will incorporate a dining hall and short-term resident pods.
