The Shift House Residence began with the examination of organic growth and the extension of space. Standard, modular shipping containers are utilized as a basis, though the concept forces an aesthetic transformation of the building’s façade, as well as a direct change in the function of space depending on its occupants. The idea being; allow the house to dynamically change in response to individuals or groups occupying the space. This is executed thru the use of compressing and expanding glass volumes at specific locations in the program, creating positive and negative spaces. Furthermore, the perception of organic growth permits accommodations ranging from 1 occupant to 8 or more, while maintaining control of energy consumption in any configuration. An individual may visit the site and inhabit a private guest module with singular growth, while on the other hand, if the entire family visits the home, a more complex growth is required.
