BIG is having a good week, now with another competition win to design the Museum of the Human Body in Montpellier, France.
The jury — led by City Mayor Ms Hélène Mandroux — selected BIG out of five international shortlisted teams. BIG collaborated on the design with A+Architecture + Egis + Base + L'Echo + Celsius Environnement + CCVH.

That site plan is adorable.
I hope the teardrop shaped plazas do indeed have greenspace and features on them, as shown in the site plan but not in the renderings.
I look at BIG's work and feel like they are totally having fun. Every project has a little silliness and lots of excitement. Then I look at Zaha's vagina stadium - all of her work - and it looks so dour and serious. As does most work by starchitects.
Who else is having any fun out there? SHoP?
@Donna FAT Architecture or maybe WAM?
I tend to find their chocolates a bit too blunt, too literal, though. not much depth?
I think Sanaa strike a much more, for me, intruiging balance, a simple synthesis of an ambiguous complexity. their work ends up looking sweet yet not totally comprehensible, latent yet visually sensual...Its not totally a random association though; the Sanaa are masters at meandering curvilinearity, at pacing solidity with intruiging voids and vice versa.
BIG's work seems to me to be over as soon as i see it the first time. like a good bad novel.
I think BIG would be absolutely huge in dubai, ville d'iconicité. Wouldn't be so unpleasant.
