The dawn of congestion pricing in parts of New York City is upon us for 2025 after a ruling on an ongoing lawsuit cleared the path for $9 tolls to begin in January, reports NYC’s local NBC affiliate. The ruling, which is conversely being framed as a victory for petitioners from the State of New Jersey, allows the MTA to move "full speed ahead" on implementation with a remand to answer the court’s remaining questions on air quality no later than January 17th. This summer, the issue was pointed to by Kate Wagner as being one of many "quite mundane" cause célèbres for architects and planners to rally behind as individual "agents of change."
