For Italian automobile and design company Pininfarina, the boundless application of design manifests across architecture, transport, jewelry, and product design. For designers wishing to immerse themselves in this environment of variable outcomes, the company is now recruiting for an architect to join their team in Miami, Florida.
Pininfarina’s specialty can vary depending on who you ask. Some know the company for their collaborations with famous car brands such as Ferrari and Alpha Romeo. Others know them for their yachts, their accessories, and even for their architecture. While Pininfarina’s brand is grounded in ideas of timelessness and interpreting modern trends, the company also exhibits an interest in pushing future boundaries. This week, for instance, we published the results of Pininfarina’s global design contest “New Dreams for a New World,” which provoked a range of intriguing futuristic ideas from students, including autonomous vehicles, artificial photosynthesis, and customizable pavilions.
Pininfarina’s expansion into architecture, and their current search for an architect, is therefore a real-world demonstration of one phenomenon shaping the future of the profession. Today, the centuries-old theory of Division of Labor, where each occupation was geared exclusively towards the production of defined products, is giving way to a market that values lateral thinking, and the flexible application of skills across disciplines. As we often show in our Working Out Of The Box series, this shift has been capitalized upon by architects applying their skills to a wide variety of fields, including jewelry design, space travel, and music.
Further demonstrating this real-world phenomenon, the position at Pininfarina is one of a number of unique opportunities we have recently highlighted from our jobs board. Earlier this week, we detailed North Carolina-based firm Living Roofs Inc, which is searching for a project designer interested in horticulture and green infrastructure. Also in August, we highlighted an opportunity to work as an interior architect for a Las Vegas theater company, and a treehouse designer in Fort Collins, Colorado.
As the industry-leading job board for the architecture industry, Archinect Jobs publishes approximately 150 new opportunities every week, covering a wide variety of locations, roles, descriptions, and experience requirements. The broad mixture of opportunities available on Archinect Jobs represents the endless possibilities afforded by an architectural background.
