“Our entire profession is geared toward the values and demands and needs of human beings,” [...] “But all over the world, these huge mechanical entities are now appearing. They are typically enormous, typically rectangular, typically hermetic.” [...] “We need to conceive of architecture that accommodates machines and robots, maybe as a priority,” Koolhaas says. “And that then investigates how robots and human rights might coexist in a single building.” — Time
Rem Koolhaas his thoughts on how architecture as a discipline might change in the post-COVID-19 era, as social distancing, automation, and anti-urban attitudes begin to take hold.
Koolhaas tells TIME's Belinda Luscombe, “It would be opportunistic if I said either, I told you so, or, basically, You can now tell that [cities] are actually really dangerous environments to live in,” adding, “I think that it’s simply slightly reinforcing the argument that it’s incredibly important to begin to look not necessarily away from cities but at the neglect of the countryside.”

Isn't he the guy from the Office of METROPOLITAN Architecture?

But all over the world, these huge mechanical entities are now appearing. They are typically enormous, typically rectangular, typically hermetic.
Proposed Apple server farm in Iowa:
architecturally identical to logistics based vertical integration perfected by james j hill in the 1880's.
Let's state the obvious about REM - He observes well.
Rem, never has had a solution, ever. The architecture is literally the embodiment of the observed. His protege's have only expanded on that making us feel like these kids are geniuses - BIG and REX make cartoons about reality and we go - Yes, that is Correct!
But has REM ever changed the world. NO.
Zaha did though. Glad she taught Ben van Berkel how to cook pasta. I mean she wanted only 5 students at the AA, and he was one of them, totally worth it dude. Wonder why Rem never listened?
This is a good post. Leave the adolescent fantasies off this forum and you will have lots to contribute, poet.
From a guy who likes to live in beautiful Amsterdam telling you that cities are actually really dangerous environments to live in? How does anyone listen to this guy...(see Trump)
Rem is like a war profiteer. Looking to shamelessly promote his new Exhibition/Book using the pandemic as a pretext,
Thank you Donna ;)
I'll talk architecture if we all talk architecture - including Rem!
