Snarkitecture transforms D.C.‘s National Building Museum into giant indoor “BEACH”
If you haven't already heard, Snarkitecture's 10,000 square-foot BEACH is at the National Building Museum now until September. Visitors can splash in the giant "ocean" of nearly 1 million plastic balls or relax on a beach chair in the monochromatic installation.
Send your crazy ideas to the Folly for London satirical competition
For this competition, throw your design ethics out the window (or over the bridge, in this case). As a satirical protest to the notorious Garden Bridge proposed for London, artist Will Jennings announced an open, free-to-enter competition wherein entries offer alternative "but equally ridiculous" designs that rival the current Garden Bridge proposal.
BIG’s winning 'twisted' design for the new Metzle Tower in Frankfurt
BIG continues to reel in the high-rise tower commissions, especially with the 2 World Trade Center in NYC as their talk-of-the-town project as of late. The Danish firm recently won the competition to design the Metzle Tower, a new mixed-use tower for Frankfurt.
New London Architecture honors Zaha Hadid and the city’s best new buildings
In the last decade, NLA has established itself as an open and popular platform for discussion about architecture and planning in London through a year-long program of events, publications, and exhibitions. Among the big winners were Zaha Hadid, who was distinguished for her contributions to the London design community nationally and internationally.
City officials approve $5.2M contract for new St. Petersburg Pier in Florida
The new St. Petersburg Pier is one step toward becoming a reality. Last week, city officials approved a contract that includes the finalization of design details, the demolition of the current Pier, and approach and initial contracting services. Rogers Partners + ASD + Ken Smith won the commission earlier this year.

Meet the London Design Museum’s 2015 Designers in Residence
The Design Museum invited a new set of four early-career designers for their Designers in Residence program. This year's theme focused on the open-ended concept of Movement, and each resident designer's approach will be publicly exhibited this September.
