David Chipperfield picks three architecture finalists for the 2016-17 Rolex Arts Initiative
And then there were three. David Chipperfield, who is the 2016-17 architecture mentor in the prestigious Rolex Arts Initiative, recently selected his three finalists. Chipperfield will interview each finalist before picking the architecture protégé for the year-long program.
Folly 2016 winners Hou de Sousa to build pavilion of “Sticks” for education studio
Not long after winning the Re-ball! Competition last month, Nancy Hou and Josh de Sousa also won Folly 2016 with their proposal titled “Sticks”. In the coming weeks, Hou de Sousa will start constructing the installation at Socrates Sculpture Park.
Institution of Structural Engineers names Robert Halvorson as 2016 Gold Medalist
Structural engineer Robert Halvorson was honored with the Institution of Structural Engineers' most prestigious prize, the 2016 Gold Medal. First awarded in 1922 to Professor Henry Adams, other notable winners in the Medal's history include Felix Candela, Ove Arup, Oleg Kerensky, and Edmund Happold.
Two Ph.D. students from Columbia GSAPP and Duke University win the 2016 Carter Manny Awards
Launched by the Graham Foundation, the Carter Manny Awards recognize doctoral students throughout the U.S. and Canada whose dissertation projects exhibit original and advanced scholarship that can potentially take contemporary architectural discourse in new directions.
Three finalist teams advance in Tel Aviv University Nanoscience Center competition
Tel Aviv University is another step closer to finding the architect of their new Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Center laboratory. After receiving a total of 128 applications, the competition is down to the final three teams.
