Winners of the 2015 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards
Community public libraries around the U.S. competed for a winning spot in the AIA and American Library Association's Library Building Awards, which recognize and encourage library design excellence in a time when libraries continue to evolve.
Sou Fujimoto + Manal Rachdi OXO + Nicolas Laisné win Ecole Polytechnique Learning Centre
Sou Fujimoto Architects + Manal Rachdi OXO Architectes + Nicolas Laisné Associates won a closed competition for the new Ecole Polytechnique Learning Centre for the Paris-Saclay University. Donned in a Sou Fujimoto-signature white, the team's open and porous design will integrate six of the university's education and research institutions into one building.
TEX-FAB Plasticity winner “Plastic Stereotomy” now on exhibition at University of Houston
"Plastic Stereotomy" had its official exhibition debut at the University of Houston's Hines College of Architecture in Texas. Designed by associate professor of architecture Justin Diles from Ohio State University and constructed by Kreysler & Associates, the kit-of-parts installation won TEX-FAB's latest Plasticity competition last fall.
A preview of the Festival des Architectures Vives 2015
Festival des Architectures Vives in Montpellier and La Grande Motte in France is back for its 10th edition, themed "La Dixième". Visitors will encounter installation sites that play with the notion of temporality as they explore both festivals.
Institution of Structural Engineers awards 2015 Gold Medal to Mike Schlaich
Mike Schlaich, Managing Director of schlaich bergermann und partner and Professor of Structural Engineering at Technische Universität Berlin received the Institution of Structural Engineers' 2015 Gold Medal, their highest honor. Schlaich's father, Jörg Schlaich, also won the medal 25 years ago. Like father, like son!
Mongolian Cool School Design Challenge attracts over 180 entries, winner TBA in May
Building Trust International is on the hunt for the winning design of an extreme cold climate-resistant school for the community in Khovd, Mongolia. The entries have been revealed but the winner won't be announced until next month.
Amanda Levete to design the 2015 MPavilion in Melbourne
British architect Amanda Levete of AL_A will design the second MPavilion in Melbourne, Australia. Established last year, MPavilion commissions a local or international architect to design a temporary events pavilion for Queen Victoria Gardens.
Ulf Mejergren Architects’ “Stick City”: The town 100 kids (could have) built
Swedish practice Ulf Mejergren Architects was a finalist for the Beam Camp Competition that challenged artists, designers, and creative makers to propose a collaborative large-scale project for a summer camp workshop of 100 kids.
