We live in the anthropogenic age, where humans don’t adapt to life, but life adapts to human needs, Ingels explains, which makes his advice to young architects designing tomorrow’s world simple and clear. The key for young architects is to acquire the tools and language to comprehend the human needs outside of the architectural bubble, and understand that they are here to accommodate - and not to be accommodated. — vimeo.com

"We live in the anthropogenic age, where humans don’t adapt to life, but life adapts to human needs,"
And that's the problem now. Just heard a lovely documentary on Rachel Carson who thought the opposite. It's us who need to adapt to life, not it to us.
I agree Thayer-D. Its that attitude which has led to a severe and destructive detachment from nature. I always find it funny how conveniently the "starchitects" create an ideology that serves as a sort of self justification for their frivilous pursuits...post rationale makes me sick.
I really love Corners book "Taking Measures" where he talks about "fit structure". such a great little book that illustrates the virtues of (the opposite) of what this bozo is talking about.
I've heard this same theme pop up a lot recently--that architects are ego-maniac modernists who don't care about people. Bjarke's PR team probably want him to get ahead of the conversation. But who speaks for the taste of all people? What outlier examples are journalists using to straw-man the work of all architects? Bjarke's work doesn't have anything to do with anybody but himself and the clients that want it.... all of this talk about diversity in architecture. How about diversity of the built environment?
Bjarke needs to stand up for his own work. There are times when I can't stand his b.s. and don't like his PR, but some of his work is at least interesting and makes a case for a certain kind of architecture--even if the craft is lacking.
Architects are on the right side. Those dumb NYTimes and Forbes articles... everyday people would chose good design over bad, regardless of style or branding.
Also, I think people forget how weird Bjarke looks in person...
