What music are you listening to?

I've been listening to a lot of Cat Power recently from morning through the night.

Blonde Redhead, The Smiths, Sabbath, and Bowie are regulars

Not really new but while I'm working I like to listen to classical music. Stuff by people like Philip Glass and Bruce Brubaker.

Dec 16, 14 2:50 pm  ·

classical music is always good!

I also like to listen to ambient music while working

Dec 17, 14 5:00 am  ·

some CDs i just picked up for my holiday roadtrip;

Apocalypse by Thundercat, Beck's Odelay and Darkness on the Edge of Town by the Boss....

Dec 18, 14 7:39 pm  ·

most of the music I listen to these days is in the car en route someplace with the family - mostly Dan Zanes albums... specifically this song on repeat... at least 10 times in a row - with a demand that "everyone sings along." there's a pretty catchy song on that album about solar power.

more fun stuff:

thrift shop - (yes - that's actually Sandra Bernhard)... and there's the wonderful love song to coney island on that album (that whole album is excellent)

other favorites - colas from nueva york...

Dec 18, 14 10:33 pm  ·
"'Scene and Air' from Luisa di Montfort" - Michael Bergson, Op. 82.
Dec 20, 14 4:28 pm  ·

There's the link for it.
Dec 20, 14 4:31 pm  ·

I've created different playlists for different work moods, some for regular drawing days, some for serious high stress deadlines.  Feel free to check it out, I'm always updating them:

Dec 26, 14 2:11 pm  ·

is cowboy bebop a band now, or are you watching the show?

it was yoko kanno that did the music right?  (just checked wikipedia) good stuff. they should bring the show back.

The lyrics are great in this one. The Devil Makes Three - "Old Number 7"

I like the line "I feel like an old worn out parachute" and "The angles are looking good to me, they are going to have to deport me to the fiery deep"

Good stuff

curtkram-  The show doesn't come on my tv anymore around here. Very cool graphics in it and I miss that.

a tribute to jack johnson - miles davis

Dec 31, 14 9:49 pm  ·

That's some bullshit go do it but mad props for the retro imagery

Jan 1, 15 12:23 am  ·

see, with the internet it doesn't matter, all this shit will sound the same and confused, and Jim Morrison became a better poet than Ezra Pound....

incase you were wondering about the discrepancies -

the jack Johnson you kids know (via G. Love) wasn't even born yet.

Jan 1, 15 12:50 am  ·

Wasn't the Mikes Davis tribute for a boxer rather than a musician

Jan 1, 15 10:28 am  ·
(1878-1946) Johnson, Jack |'Jänsen|

US boxer. He was the first black heavyweight world champion 1908-15.

Something tells me he's talking about the boxer, and not the Hawaiian musician that wasn't born yet when Miles Davis made that tribute.

Happy New Year all!
Jan 1, 15 10:41 am  ·

it was Jack Johnson the boxer, haha....and who is Mike Davis curtrkam?

and all of history is being flooding by information, google it...

Happy new year

Jan 2, 15 9:36 am  ·

actually, that was a typo.  possibly some sort of autocorrect.  apparently i did not proofread.

still listening to this....its like a summary of what it should sound like in one shot -

Onar Arslan

Jan 23, 15 9:21 pm  ·

Radio Discostan. Music of the Psychedelic Islamic State particularly good!

Jan 23, 15 9:39 pm  ·

Discostan - great name!...Nam if you want to go psychedelic electronica you should really check out any work by Simon Posford and/or Raja Ram.

1200 Micrograms

this is my brain without drugs -  Shamanix

and then there is always Infected Mushroom, if you're feeling a little aggressive

Jan 24, 15 8:27 am  ·

Nam I would say that mix was more funky than psychedelic, following them either way...

Jan 24, 15 8:59 am  ·

Nam, you got me digging up indirectly tunes I had not heard in a while, specifically psychedelic techno (GOA trance, etc...) some merged with Rock or blues, which rarely works but worth checking out.

Martian Blues  by Cosmosis

Acid for Nothing by 1200 Micrograms  (Dire Straits - Money for Nothing Remix)

Riders on the Storm (Remix) by Infected Mushroom

In general though psychedelic or just plain electronic music works better with non-western  music.  Below are the types of songs I thought your link might have been referring to by using the term psychedelic -

God is God by Juno Reactor

Congo Fury by Juno Reactor

Divine Moments of Truth by Shpongle

Pagan Dream Machine by Entheogenic (remix by Vibrasphere, linked here)

Rogue Bagel by Ott

Jan 24, 15 1:52 pm  ·

agreed re: funky vs psychedelic. guess one reads better than other?

Jan 24, 15 4:25 pm  ·

Jan 24, 15 6:13 pm  ·

anything Neateye

lots of Blade Runner and The Doors over old school techno equipment....

this toon (not tune) is good for a Saturday night by Neateye

Jan 28, 15 2:46 pm  ·

null pointer I was starting to trust your taste in music, but that link put some doubt in my belief, although it's quite good 1 or 2 minutes in...fuckin' archives....then hardcores 2 mins + haha... I don't know, maybe you do know.  like the edge.

but this should return you to aggressive nature fronting humanity and nature

Disposable War Pigs (Cell Dweller Klash-up)

When I attended Teeterfest 2014  this song was followed by

Scott H. Biram's Wind up Blind

Then later we sang Bohemian Rhapsody and the cops showed up laughing at my neighbor for calling us in on Queen.

Don't you want to ride my bicycle?

Jan 30, 15 11:50 pm  ·

ok null, I listened to that tune 3 times is good, why only 151 listens though.

it's got this

feel with a little

and who is kathleen hanna anyway?

Jan 30, 15 11:59 pm  ·

Olaf, aren't we talking roofing EPMD?

I mean I had this on tape in 1992 on the Juice soundtrack I think

Ice T (OG)

my lethal weapon is my mind!

Danny my neighbor had this on tape, had to like mix it in with Degarmo and Key tapes to avoid parents finding out, haha

Degarmo and Key - 666

the video is totally worth it!

Jan 31, 15 12:09 am  ·

hey Chris you remember that Church camp in Germany with that demon possessed chick, far out, right?

dude I totally found a track from that tape your parents had to listen to over and over to approve it.

The Money Mask  This might make you a communist!

Nightlight you need one right?

Jan 31, 15 12:26 am  ·

fuck it, I've gone to sleep to these soothing tunes

Slayer - AntiChrist

Do non-christians, pagans, just play the guitar better Olaf?

There is nothing like Raining in Blood!

Jan 31, 15 12:29 am  ·

didn't you date this goth chick who had you drag her around at Ozzfest on a chain, straight from Monmouth county NJ?

Wasn't the god of rock'n'roll there Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Society!

wasn't Dimmu Borgir there? Weren't they surpised by the neck gear?

Jan 31, 15 12:37 am  ·

Olaf, you realize you are talking to yourself right?

Yeah, that was a weird Ozzfest, not to mention the insane Wall of Death setup by Lamb of God.

Braveheart Rugby!

notice lead singer Lamb of God shirt.  could it be we were angry? (see video)

The girl I knew, her friend was this angry Jewish kid who boxed, he punched at least 5 guys that had pagan and aryan brotherhood tattoos in that wall of death, good work.

and I've been to the actual Dimmu Borgir in Iceland! It's beautiful.

Olaf we shouldn't probably end this night on a good Venom tune, no?

Architecture Studio Culture ;)

(maybe it wasn't a good idea to have some born again christian show a 10 year old banned music in the US - Venom, just saying, which makes me think why was the born again guy still holding on to that tape?)

Jan 31, 15 12:55 am  ·

"Old school" KMFDM.

Goddammit, I'm going to end up listening to a lot of that today.

Thanks Olaf.

Jan 31, 15 8:16 am  ·

I absolutely trust your music taste now Null Pointer. \-/

Boy in a well, that is some serious stuff!

blown out bass has a good ring to it. (like the animation in the video)

one of my favorite KMFDM tracks below (not that old school of KMFDM but over 10 years old, now I'm getting old, ha)

kein mitleid für die mehrheit (KMFDM) - no sympathy (pity) for the majority

Aiden Hughes art is worth checking out (the album covers)

which reminds of another song with some aggressive sounds and banjos.

Loosing my Mind by Pride and Glory (another Zakk Wylde gig)
