I'm curious as to why Columbia didn't send any financial information or indicate when that information would be available. I only know how much tuition costs ($32,284). For those of you who received some scholarship (I can assume that I didn't?/won't?), did you get any more info?
My bulletin is for 2003-2005 and their website info doesn't seem to be up to date, either. I'm interested in the open house, but I attended the one for prospective students back in October, and it looks like the same deal.
On the plus side, it's so much money that I'm not even concerned about pinching pennies!
I bet there are some administrators out there who have viewed this thread...and I wonder how it makes them feel to know that they are slowly killing a large number of us.
To all involved....if any of us are ever on a portfolio review board later in life, just remember the pain of the letdown that comes from an empty mailbox, or a deceptively full inbox. I'm liking the idea of the phone call. It is so immediate. Like a band-aid....just RIP it off. Plus then you'll be able to get an idea early on of who the stutterers are when they get flustered. "And the most important concept I had for this project is......wait a sec...where's the damn notecard?" (happened to me)
I'm still there with alot of you:
IIT - accepted
Columbia - optimistic still
Penn - ?????
UCLA - ?????/optimistic still
All for post-prof.
Oh yeah, about the AA. I have a friend here in the states who heard lilke a week ago. Not sure if it was via mail or e-mail.
Yeah, it makes me think that they only send out acceptances. Which then makes me think that I wasn't accepted. Which then makes me curl into a fetal position.
orEqual.... My letter says blah blah blah your in... and by the way you have a scholarship for xxxxx and ps that is spread over all three sememsters. That's the just of it anyway.
Talked to them on the phone today and they said that scholarships would have been mentioned in the letter, but they will send out a financial packet around April 1 for grants/loans/ whatever.
so by getting a rejection to a school of a lower "standing" , does this mean I should give up hope for the higher "standing" schools I have applied for?
Has anyone heard of anyone who has been accepted by a comparatively better school (ie; an Ivy) but rejected from a school of a lower standing?
orequal - pinch as many pennies as you can! These schools - espeically the Ivies - have money to give and if you've done the work to get in, you should enjoy as many pennies as possible. (If you got into other schools, you may want to speak to Columbia and try to get them to match the other school's financial aid package.)
Finally got the UTexas letter. Was starting to get worried that I would recheck my webstatus and see that they pulled the paragraph about me gettin accepted.
You never know with grad schools. Being rejected by a school of lower standing does not necessarily mean that you'll be rejected from an Ivy. But I won't lie, it might mean something. My ex-girlfriend applied to BU Law and Columbia Law. She was outright rejected at BU, and shortlisted at Columbia. Decided not to go into law anyway though.
in at berkeley. M.arch option 2. good luck to those of you awaiting responses still. leaning towards the schools out east, but cali sure would be nice.
Drinking heavily??? Not quite, I usually have one or two Becks during dinner. But I think I may start drinking real heavy starting tomorrow at about 1 or 2pm when the mailman is supposed to come. Might throw on a straw hat and take a rocker chair onto the stup or fire escape. And if he or she does not have a letter from Columbia . . . I may begin to take my frustrations out on the wrong person.
I went out and had a few (nine) drinks. We ALL agreed to that. It was our obligations. I am a bit intoxahmahcated. Of course, I decide to drunk dial my old girlfriend: Ms. Accepted to Grad Schools Yet?
But her mailbox was full.
Apparently, while I was enjoying a few cocktails, a few other suitors decided to send her two, three pages of messages? what the hell?
MArch06! The thread already dumped you. You are batting 3/3. What more do you want? The only person justified in posting here is "foot" because that dude has no clue what is going on, b'c "foot" neglected to read 1049 posts before he/she posted.
I--like S--am slightly blitzed and I just read thru every single missed post. Because I am devoted. And addicted. And hoping. Just hope, hope, hoping that Toshiko will provide a link to all of us sweet, sweet Archinecters to a special website with a bounty of special acceptances for those of us willing not only to apply, but to check our mailboxes and voicemailboxes and neighbor's mailboxes for a ridiculous envelope licked by someone who could care less about the contents behind their spittle.
Fancy Graphic Lovers? You cannot even begin to understand the neuroses of those entering school in '06.
I'm just sayin. MArch06 already confessed that the thread already dumped him/her. But MArch06 keeps coming back. Just like we all keep coming back. For more abuse. For more tales of trial and tribulation. Mailbox adulation. And envelope infatuation.
...
This thread is on fire,
with passionate tales,
All complaining about the GSAPPs and Yales,
But somehow it never strays far from the top.
My therapist said, not to check this thread anymore,
She said it's like a disease without any cure.
She said I'm obsessed, that I'm becoming a bore, oh no...
Ah, just check 05 and 04...
i keep coming back because now im invested in all of you. im serious, its like a sick fraternity or something. i may have heard from all of my schools, but you all supported me before i knew so im going to return the favor. because believe me, i've been there. i don't want to keep posting this, but i went 0-8 the past two years. i know the pain, but i also know what perseverance can bring.
andrea - i hope you get the email you're looking for...here's to them sending them out in bunches. keep your head up
wilday - biased because you haven't heard from cal yet? did you apply for option 2 or 3? do you have an unbiased opinion? i'll be looking for your name tag come UCLA's open house....
MArch06-
i applied to option 2, but haven't heard anything from berkeley yet...and i'm thinking that is probably not a good sign. when i first applied it was one of my top choices, but after visiting in january i wasn't so sure. i love the surrounding area and the university itself, but the architecture school felt like it had a general lack of energy. i'm not sure how to describe it, it was primarily an instinctive feeling. i've also talked with a few alumni, and have heard very mixed views (it seems that they either love it or hate it). overall, though, i still think it is a good school. so far i'm set on ucla over umich, but i haven't heard anything from asu or sci-arc yet (except for sci-arc's "fake out" financial aid packet a few weeks ago.
A little late in the game, but acceptances from the GSD (M.Arch1) and Columbia have officially made it to Bangkok (paper form)! So for those of you out there with GRE scores that are shy from 4-digits, there is hope! Just for the record- I have no background in arch, yes I did go to disco, and I have some seriously crummy GRE scores. So they were right. Your portfolio *does* matter.
im in VA and a good friend + classmate in my thesis studio (we're in 5 yr professional program) heard from the financial aid dept at MIT two nights ago. she was accepted- although hasn't received her acceptance letter yet. they slipped up by calling her about her financial aid package first. she applied for urban planning/design (1000-gre, 3.3 gpa).
as for me, i'm still waiting for harvard, columbia, and berkeley.
I think I gave myself ulcers. It was very tough waiting at a different address. I don't recommend it to anyone applying next year. jualn, 8888, meta- thank you. I think I can finally smile again.
felipe- I think it was some speedy form of post. I don't know because I'm currently in Hong Kong and had some family friends go check the mail for me.. that's why I was chewing my finger nails like no tomorrow.
Strugs - classic remarks you definitely hit the bottle and cracked me up.
As for me I was sitting in my closet enjoying a beverage or two while trying not to look out the cracked door at my computer. This thing is like a magnet.... I am a moth flying around a flame sooner or later i will accidentally catch my self on fire and that is how I am destin to meet my ultimate demise.
joe - i hear you - Rice is killing me too! i'm still waiting on SCI-Arc, Penn and some others but Rice is the one I'm most interested in and the one Iid consider over UT Austin...
and thanks for the entertainment - it's fun catching up on all the chat/news that occurred whilst away...
Has anyone been having dreams (nightmare really) about the application process?
I had one last night where I was arguing with Stan Allen over a letter of recommendation, which he said was the reason I didn't get in. And then he opened a door to a crowd of accepted students and closed in my face. I wonder if that means anything?
I have been reading this post nonstop for the past couple days. I applied this year as well......GSD, Yale, MIT, and Rice. I am glad to hear nobody has heard anything from Rice. It is one of my top picks, but I am not betting on it......such a small program.
So far:
GSD - heard nothing (bad news to be sure)
Yale - accepted
MIT - heard nothing
Rice - running home to the mail box every night.
congrats and good luck to everyone thus far........
I had a dream last night that I got THE letter from UT... but I didnt need to open it since the word "REJECTED" was stamped across the front of the little envelope in red ink. Woke up in a cold sweat.
What a great way to start to the day.
someone tell me why I even care about UT? I already sent my acceptance in to another school!! This thread is making me mentally ill.
Congratulations. That's fantastic; looks like the anxiety over the portfolio was unfounded. Any idea of your preference? Will you be going to the GSD open house in a couple of weeks?
I feel like my acceptance/rejection is based on my quotidian actions: yesterday I held the elevator for someone, this morning I helped a lady down the subway stairs with her baby carriage.
accepted to grad schools yet?
tenex - thanks for the info. i was really discouraged by the fact that there was no financial help this year ...not very reassuring.
Still no word from Berkeley. Guess they don't want me either.
my first post this year,
no word from columbia, no word from pratt..
those applying to pratt, i wouldn't expect anything until april comes around
I'm curious as to why Columbia didn't send any financial information or indicate when that information would be available. I only know how much tuition costs ($32,284). For those of you who received some scholarship (I can assume that I didn't?/won't?), did you get any more info?

Oh yeah, about the AA. I have a friend here in the states who heard lilke a week ago. Not sure if it was via mail or e-mail.
The letter from Columbia says in the second line "The Student Financial Services Office will send you a complete financial aid package shortly."
The letter was dated 03.16.06. I got it today.
did people get emails from berkeley? i hate this "lets notify only a fraction of the people" thing that all the schools have going on...
Yeah, it makes me think that they only send out acceptances. Which then makes me think that I wasn't accepted. Which then makes me curl into a fetal position.

I think someone received a rejection from RISD and was waitlisted (either on page 11 or 12??) from Yale. I don't think you should give up.
orequal - pinch as many pennies as you can! These schools - espeically the Ivies - have money to give and if you've done the work to get in, you should enjoy as many pennies as possible. WTF?
Am I the only one who has been drinking heavily since 7 PM?
WTF?

guiggster-
i'm in the same boat...maybe we shouldn't have bound those portfolios for berkeley after all...
MArch06-
congrats! as for berkeley vs. ucla, i think i might be biased for ucla right now...
s- no, you are not the only one

Who is still with me out in accepted nowhere land? Happy that it's getting lonelier but eager to leave it soon...
Also, MArch06 we like you. Don't listen to strugs!
I still haven't received an offer of admisssion - still waiting for Columbia.
But I do have this Princeton pen! Which I guess cost me $80!!!

Congrats mlertpac!
Did you received the letters by FedEx or air mail ?
I think I gave myself ulcers. It was very tough waiting at a different address. I don't recommend it to anyone applying next year. jualn, 8888, meta- thank you. I think I can finally smile again.

Good Morning All and congrats once again… Has anyone heard anything from Clemson? Unfortunately, I am not as interested in this school as I was since my Fiancée decided not to take a job in Atlanta. Does anyone know much about the program other than whats on the web page? I should have applied to UPENN since she took a job at Temple… oh well I guess I will be alone next year expect for my new friends on Archinect
BTW: Rice is still killing me!!! just tell me I did not get in so I can go on with my life

sorry for the carrot on a stick - rumor has it MIT emails will be going out very soon... (as in today?)
this is such a sadistic pleasure to read for someone in the same boat a couple of years ago. congrats to all.

holy cats. i've been gone about a week, and something like 600 posts are logged. now if only y'all mobilized into an archi-taskforce or something.
Perec would orgasm reading this - the lists he would have made...
miertpac-
Congratulations. That's fantastic; looks like the anxiety over the portfolio was unfounded. Any idea of your preference? Will you be going to the GSD open house in a couple of weeks?

I just got a call from MIT......accepted with big scholarship!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't think I will be able to turn that one down.
Good luck to all the MIT hopefuls....calls are starting. They also told me physical letters were mailed today.
