I was accepted at Syracuse, RISD and Cornell (M.LA 1st professional) with no professional experience (unless you count a summer internship last summer). I'm currently finishing up my BA in Arch. Studies.
re: MArchII - I think this thread is largely MArchI, but with a few of us 2s here and there
re: ringlet My suspicion is that UT has/is sending out all their MArchI admissions/denials right now and leaving us 2s for last. I suspect this because all of the UT notices that I've heard thus far are for the MArchI program. I'm waiting for someone to blow a hole in that theory - please do - so us 2s will know that our time cometh.
Rejection letters from Penn have reached Connecticut. Still technically waiting on 3 schools but pretty sure it's time to start my job search...I just turned 22, still have plenty of time to reapply I guess. Congrats +q!
I just turned in my application for the AA two weeks ago and I would love to go there but it would probably be to $$$$$$.
joe architect --- I didn't post my portfolio. Because 1 I don't know how (and I am an architecture student???) and 2 because my work is so personal to me I hate showing it to people. I am the type of person that would paint a picture and feel like i need to kind it in the closet.
Congrat to q+ that is quite an accomplishment !!!!!!
+q - wow -- that is impressive. Also, I just stared at the animated pics on the ufl site for far too long...the sparks shooting off in that one image are hypnotic, so are the wavy palm fronds (and I'm not sure, but isn't your work in one of the pics, +q? )
rejection from penn. seems like some schools don't take a "no" very well...i just don't get it how i got in last year with what i had, and am rejected this year with a stronger app...really looks like i'm going to RISD at this point
Also received my rejection from Penn today. Still waiting for that email from Berkeley (unlikely) or perhaps mail from MIT (probably less likely).
I at least have a very slim envelope from Oregon which contained an acceptance letter despite it's slight stature, but don't know how excited I am to move to Eugene.
Sorry if this is a threadjack, but with all this talk about work experience, did any of you really do stuff at work that you could put in your portfolio? I worked for a year at what was considered to be a fairly design-oriented firm, one that constantly wins all sorts of design awards, but even some of the 10-year veterans didn't seem to have anything that actually reflected their creative talent. (I, of course, having had zero prior experience, DEFINITELY didn't do anything worth showing off, aside from adding AutoCAD to my resume.) I guess they could showcase projects that they had a hand in, but the partners really did most of the design work.
I'm sure it varies from firm to firm, but working in the field was a shock for me--even though the final product was usually pretty impressive, in the office it was all business, codes, specs, samples, dry CAD work, job meetings, and butting heads with contractors. That's why I'm leaning towards academia, since I still love architecture as a field of study.
Same here, foot! Mcf1983, UVa is a small program and sent out acceptances and rejections weeks ago. Check the first few pages of this thread. It is certainly an exciting looking program, but only a few will get to experience it, alas.
UF represent! Best undergrad in all the land... ;)
strugs, that animation is a bit silly, in my humble opinion. But if you can get past that and the somewhat jumpy flash in general, the content of the site is top notch.
re: ringlet LOL, I guess you did crack my theory. Hmmm, I think there's about 2-3 on this board who have gotten accepted @ UT this year for M.Arch I back in the last couple of days or so... I'm under the impression that they're mailing out all this week - and that the 'definites' were the ones who already have letters in hand. That leaves the rest of us, I suppose...
In at penn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
e-jected from berkeley=(.
such a relief. no word from gsd, columbia still (or sci-arc but nobody has right?)...... which is probably not a good sign but i will not give up hope still.
Shit shit shit. I have an email from Berkeley but I cant check my email at work...its blocked. Will someone tell me what the subject on their rejection or acceptance was? I have a bad feeling about this. It says Application Decisions. And not Congratulations. Damn damn damn. I'm dying here.
congrats luciab83 / dusty / [insert various aliases here] !!!
ghostgone -- nice tally!
8^4 -- If you do drink, avoid drunk-posting. Despite the anonymity, it's still awkward the next day.
dmc -- you sound disappointed w/ RISD - I understand it given your past history / deferral situation, but I am actually kinda leaning that way right now...I am sorta intrigued by RISD for a bunch of reasons...but mostly importantly b/c of Family Guy.
guiggster: Berkeley rejection email subject is "UCB M.Arch. Application Decisions." It was a mass email, which may be why you can't open it at work...? (Not that I'm suggesting you're being rejected, of couse.)
For some reason that rejection makes me want to hold off from school and apply again. Don't know why I would want to put myself through this again though.
+q nice work my friend....most impressive and frankly, inspiring
Auguste I'm in Brooklyn and have heard nothing from Columbia
MARCHII I'm a fellow Post-Pro degree fellow. Waiting on Penn decision right now. From what I heard Penns class is around 15-20. Probably on the smaller end of that range. Good place though. I'm also in for Columbia, UCLA, and IIT. Waiting on CU and UCLA (ANY DAY PLEASE!!!!!)
Biggins Also a post-pro right? UT Austin. Good program there. I'll tell you about my experience with UTA after you hear back from them. I applied last year and had to call to finally find out for sure. I eventually got a letter, but Rosemin Gopaul looked up my name and told me over the phone. Try that.
Andrea316 Bummer you didn't get in, but you gots time. Get a job at an arch firm for now. Either that or tend bar. The money's better. And the hours are better.
Tempdrive Holy shit....you are already in debt just from application fees.
Strugs Drunk posting....bwah ah ah ah!!! I like it.
I think we'll all look back at this frantic thread in a few weeks time and will laugh a reminiscent all knowing laugh. In fact...I'll start now...HAHAHAHAHAHA. Ok, thats enough. Gotta go triple check my mailbox.
Thanks for the info, dblefere. Yeah, I'm a post-pro aiming for the M.Arch/Urban Design @ UT (small program - 5-7 students NICE!) I spoke with Rosemin this Monday and she was unable to provide me with any info other than "we haven't processed some apps yet", presumably including mine. :(
If I don't find out anything by Friday, then I'm definitely calling back, as she mentioned that they were hurrying to get out everything by the end of this week.
topflight9000: are you canadian? you apply to any other CDN schools?
I just got word today out on the west coast from U of T... haven't made my mind up 100% but looks like I'll be joining you there!
unfortunately none of my friends want to get drunk tonight..... i want to celebrate!
accepted to grad schools yet?
Hey Joe,
I was accepted at Syracuse, RISD and Cornell (M.LA 1st professional) with no professional experience (unless you count a summer internship last summer). I'm currently finishing up my BA in Arch. Studies.

Congrat to q+ that is quite an accomplishment !!!!!!
sorry andrea.
working isn't the worst idea. i'll be 29 come september and i know i've learned and grown leaps and bounds since graduating.
Congrats on your offer to MIT +q......
I got the same offer, and I don't think it can be beat.
are there any MArchII's on here coming directly from undergrad? Seems like a lot of MArch I's are...just curious
Andrea316 - bummer and sorry to hear that. keep hoping for the best with the last three schools....you never know.....
+q - glad you're able to start grad school after all, congrats!!
+q - Awesome job!
Oh, and, I graduated from undergrad in 2002 (though, I should've been out in 2001 - took an extra year).
So, almost 4 yrs work experience.
agree with you cotd, best money/degree deal for sure, I am holding out and praying to get something nice from the GSD.
thanks guys,
yes S after much thought and weighing my options I have decided that maybe I should go back to school. I hope it is the right decision...
cotd - congrats!
+q - wow -- that is impressive. Also, I just stared at the animated pics on the ufl site for far too long...the sparks shooting off in that one image are hypnotic, so are the wavy palm fronds (and I'm not sure, but isn't your work in one of the pics, +q? )
thanks strugs, it is this drawing (without the picture of the building)
sorry, but this is a better image:
I thought I recognized that image from the portfolio thread.
Good luck in deciding b/n those schools! You are in a pretty enviable position, and it doesn't seem like you could make a bad choice...
rejection from penn. seems like some schools don't take a "no" very well...i just don't get it how i got in last year with what i had, and am rejected this year with a stronger app...really looks like i'm going to RISD at this point

dmc, you were accepted last year and rejected this year? ouch. you couldn't have deferred?
actually biggins I blow your theory-I am an MArch I applicant-but still NO WORD...hello Texas-anyone out there?
it seems all of the schools applied to are of a small group. I am currently researching grad schools for next years application process.
Why is it that UVA [virginia] is not on any lists? It is the most intriguing of the public schools I have seen?
Curious...

reject!!! berkeley option3
sign
rejected from berkeley by email, depressing, they couldn't even personalize the email.
long time reader, first time poster.
so, vengence was mine. after rejections immediately post-undergrad two years ago, the turnout this year was nice:
Parsons- accepted + $
RISD- accepted
Penn- accepted
Columbia- accepted
Michigan- accepted
Yale- wait listed
I am curious as to everyones internal dialogue about accruing so much debt. And about where to go...
Same here, foot! Mcf1983, UVa is a small program and sent out acceptances and rejections weeks ago. Check the first few pages of this thread. It is certainly an exciting looking program, but only a few will get to experience it, alas.

shit. Just read this page on the thread. Everyone got the rejection at the same time.

the subject is "UCB M.Arch. Application Decisions
mine was rejection
Yup. That is heartbreaking.
berkeley: rejected. Yeah i know they didn't personalize the email -> "Dear Applicant." They didn't even bother to insert my name in there.
But oh well, I'm happy to be going to my school of choice...U of Toronto! Yay I'm excited =)
For some reason that rejection makes me want to hold off from school and apply again. Don't know why I would want to put myself through this again though.
Another fruitless day....
