congrats 8 - i'm dying to get my letter from upenn - unfortunately I won't make it home until tonight until 9pm. so till then i am left here at work developing my bleeding ulcer.
no i'm an east coaster. and i've been an east-coaster my whole life. grew up in jersey, whole family is in manhattan. boyfriend's family is massachusetts. i know i'm going to live the rest of my life on the east coast, so the idea of studying somewhere that would expose me to a different regionalism is really appealing too. hence, another reason i'm leaning towards UW. i'm visiting next week, so i guess that'll be useful in deciding either way.
samsonio - i live in brooklyn- will your roommate break into my building, bust open my mailbox and see if i have a big package from upenn? i'm slowly dying here .
random question regarding penn... did anyone else disregard the "10 page" limit on portfolio from penn (double sided)? particularly those of you with large envelopes from penn, but also those of you with bleeding ulcers like my own.
Congrats samsonoio! Dying with you bnev. My only hope is that my post office still has several large bins of big pieces of mail to sort through...and they seem to be doing it as slowly as possible for my benefit. :(
you the post office has really blown lately, has anyone noticed that...outside of this discussion? i've had lots of letters "lost" recently and things seem to be taking twice as long as they previously did
mine was 20 pages, single-sided for penn - although i suppose that's the same amount of content, so it doesn't really help to answer your question.
i imagine that if your work is convincing, they won't have gotten bogged down counting pages.
some people seem to have wanted to put in 30 ok pages showing a broader range, in which case 10 great pages could've gotten you in, but the 30 ok pages, even with the same great 10 pages in there, won't do the trick.
bnev - If she wasn't sick, maybe . . .
dusty - didn't realize there was a limit, but I think my portfolio was under that
andrea, march06 - thanks! the post office totally blows . . . they lost a box with over $400 worth of architecture books. I insured it and got the $400 back - but, I'm still pissed about losing those books. My fault for being stupid and trusting USPS with anything important
strugs - I'm 3 for 4, still waiting on MIT, though I'm definitely not complaining about the other acceptances
BTW, I showed this thread to my non-architecture roommate and he thought we were all insane.
Wow...just found this thread yesterday and wish I would have known about it 3 weeks ago! I contacted the GSD this morning and they said they weren't sending anything out until the end of the month...Penn sent monday and i'm hating living in the midwest - won't see anything until tomorrow. Congrats to everyone on acceptances! Anyone know how large the MArchII class is at the GSD or Penn?
Kaal.... welcome to every single students world. NO MONEY and EXPENSIVE SCHOOL. I mean this in the nicest way possible...I could kick you in the face for complaining after getting accepted to all those schools ... I would do it as gently as possible of course. I am freaking about how to pay rent and tuition in NYC. Maybe I'll have another car wreck tonight and I will be able to sue for millions... that's my new plan.
Wait a second there are two MArchs??? And Dusty = luciab83? This is getting f'ing f'ed up.
Can I just verify: no one who lives in NYC has received anything from GSAPP, right?
Just a quick question for all... Who has gotten accepted anywhere without any serious professional experience? I am just wondering since I have about 7 years of experience. Do you think this factors in at all to these places, and if so good or bad? (ie out of school too long)
Bummer, MArchII. The reason I asked is because I assumed (from your name, obviously) that you're trying to pair up your 5-year B.Arch with an M.Arch. Correct? If so, I'm in the same boat - waiting on UT-Austin... *sigh*
joe - for first professional? i have ZERO experience, professional or otherwise - just a sustained and demonstrated interest. poli. sci and spanish major who as worked in non-profit jobs and is now working for an arch. firm to learn more about the profession, etc. in my free time i've taken a drafting class at parsons (cont. ed.) and photography classes at cooper union (also cont. ed.)
Your right MArch06 I am sorry about my evil remarks... if you knew me well you would realize that I am quite a sarcastic person that loves to joke around. However I understand that in text my remarks might have forced someone over the razors edge. oooooppps.
Joe Architect - I have +/- 3 years of experience at 3 different places. (I like to move) I think that if you have years of experience it can be helpful, but also if you have nothing to show for it except some window details it can hurt.
Over the past three years I have been taking jobs that I know will offer me a wide range of experience and ones that will assist me while trying to build a better portfolio.
You'll like this - I've only applied to UT-A. In other words, I have no backup. Hell, I even moved to Austin two years in advance. If I don't get in, well "we'll see..."
*counts eggs in basket*
Ok guys first of all congratulations to the many hearing back positive news,
Looks like this is my last post for the application season (except to congratulate people as they hear).
So this is where I finished (MArch I):
Princeton-ejected
GSD + AP no money stuff yet
MIT + AP 75% scholarship (just got a call)
GSAPP + 50% scholarship
Yale + 35% scholarship
4/5 GSD and MIT now no. 1 and 2 choices (lets see the money)
amanning, did you post your portfolio on the portfolio thread... if so I would like to see it... also mine can be found on there if you or anyone else is curious what kind of portfolio it takes to get denied at UVA... HA!
Got the Penn acceptance package this afternoon, finally.....$10,000 scholarship also. wow i was amazed. was getting really worried after hearing nothing from schools after the Yale reject.
Well best of lucks for everyone!!!
Has anybody heard anything from UCLA after Friday?
biggins-I'm in the same boat with you-only applied to UT-A and still no word and I am in Texas-wondering what they are doing-do they just not know what to do with my application? I am getting worried here!
accepted to grad schools yet?
but congrats nevertheless on you acceptance to penn!
congrats 8 - i'm dying to get my letter from upenn - unfortunately I won't make it home until tonight until 9pm. so till then i am left here at work developing my bleeding ulcer.

and i live in boston now. mab82 have you decided definitely on UW?
I naming my first bleeding ulcer "Rice"
do we think the small penn envelopes will travel slower than the big ones? and congrats 8s!
i moved left from boston two years ago...i thought i'd go back as well. i don't think that anymore. ;)
i thought penn's application was a little pretentious...seemed really rigid. so that will be my solace when (if) i get my rejection letter....
Well, my roommate's at home sick today, in Brooklyn, and she just called to say I got a big package from UPenn. =)
congrats samsonoio
Thanks! Likewise to you 8888!

this guy MArchII06 is making me go cross-eyed. i keep thinking im double posting
Hey MArchII, where were you accepted? Or have you been notified as of yet? Thx.
Wait a second there are two MArchs??? And Dusty = luciab83? This is getting f'ing f'ed up.

Just a quick question for all... Who has gotten accepted anywhere without any serious professional experience? I am just wondering since I have about 7 years of experience. Do you think this factors in at all to these places, and if so good or bad? (ie out of school too long)

rejected princeton

i thought my registration would certainly make a difference...but i'm not so sure.

well...thats the plan. We'll have to see how it works out from here. Where have you been accepted/rejected?
Auguste Perret ,
I haven't received anything from GSAPP, and I'm in Brooklyn.
KAAL and MArch06 ---
