Introduction
“When Memory is a Blank” was the topic of a “Charette”in Bruxelles on 1987.
It was during the ILA&UD Spring Seminary of that year.
The place was “Quartier Nord” where after main demolitions and urban transformation the sole historic sign was an hidden trace of an ancient, eighteen century, railways.
That was the time when archiects and common people asked themselves ho to manage big industrial areas under tranformation.
Same time, in Milan, someone was asking itself about the big "blank" of “Varesine” e Porta Nuova, ancient railways areas no more useful.
Today, in Milan, this big “blank” has been reprojected and it is near to be fully occupied with huge buildings.
The building
The heart of this area is a park “La biblioteca degli alberi” (The libray of trees) and at the heart of this park stands this small building.
A building so small cannot compete with the "giants" around: it look at, with a certain surprise on how the area was transformed.
He is waiting only for the flowers of the park.
A small volume growing from the grass that, with an ironic glance, twirls on itself looking to the sun partially hidden fron the skyscrapers in front.
A meeting point, an observation and meditation place for local people and for all.
