Interior renovation of a 1200 sf historic downtown retail space into a naturally lit open dining space and kitchen for a small plate and cheese bar. Removing drop ceilings and drywall to expose 10 foot ceilings and brick walls brought back the original character of this historic Downtown Ann Arbor building. A palette of white materials in tile, paint, and marble are contrasted with warm walnut surfaces and copper finishes. Synecdoche's custom fabricated tables and shelves made an efficient use of the small retail space to comfortably seat patrons along the storefront windows and at a set of shared dining tables.
