Set in the ubiquitous shopping center, Ann Arbor Pharmacy is a balance of neighborhood pharmacist and boutique health retail. The aqua interior unifies the space between pharmacy and retail with an ambient halcyon tone. The open concept pharmacy removes the pharmacist from behind the glass partition often seen in typical layouts and out into the open space to connect with customers. Processing and prescription filling is done behind an open frame shelving to allow continuous engagement during the process, building the relationship and engagement. The desire is for the pharmacy to be a place to inquire and learn about wellness options instead of merely an errand to pick-up items.
The retail promotes an exploration of products displayed in a way that invites testing and learning. Counters and cabinets allow for a continuous surface for samples of products to learn and test the items encouraging the customer to take control and have inquiry into their wellness products. White oak shelving with movable boxes frames the product and provides flexible space options to display different sizes and configurations of products. The lower cabinets provide ample storage of addition stock of product on the retail floor since the space itself is too small to provide back of house storage. 4 large tables with tiers platforms showcase product and frame a separation between items for a curated display of items. Synecdoche fabricated all of the white oak items for a cohesive detailed retail component.
The brand of the pharmacy was closely integrated between interior design and the graphics package. Synecdoche also provided logo design for the pharmacy. The simplicity of font styles with line work is framed in a way with the ability to expand easily to packaging and products. Bringing back the traditional pharmacist relationship with it’s neighborhood customers, the mortar and pestle was also brought back.
