Coral Gables, FL
Looking to reaffirm its legacy as the Caribbean’s leading luxury resort, Rosewood Little Dix Bay enlisted OBM International architectural firm for the most sustainable, and resort-wide, upgrade since it was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago. The comprehensive, multi-million dollar renovation will uphold Rockeller’s vision of a luxurious hideaway set in pristine Virgin Gorda. As a global leader in architectural design with a local understanding of the British Virgin Islands, OBMI was selected as lead architect for the new structure of the Beach Grill and the remodel of the resort’s guestrooms and suites.
As one of the most iconic resorts in the British Virgin Islands, Rosewood Hotel and Resorts asked for Little Dix Bay’s redesign to be sensitive to the original Rockefeller design with a focus on increased sustainability and new world amenities. After reviewing the site and functional organisation of the Beach Grill, OBMI suggested a new floor plan for the Beach Grill that recreated the internal design for expanded seating areas and stunning panoramic views of Little Dix Bay. To improve guest travel by sea, OBMI recommended the addition of a new open-air lounge adjacent to the restaurant to serve as a gathering area for arriving and departing guests.
Rosewood Hotel and Resorts was thrilled with OBMI’s renderings which showcased the new open-air arrival experience and the re-built Beach Grill. Honouring Rockefeller’s vision, OBMI featured the signature pyramid shape structure that complements the existing Pavilion restaurant design symbolising the peaks of Virgin Gorda. The rendering also presented the site plan with the new lounge which will improve beach access and an elevate the arrival experience for guests.
On the accommodation side, OBMI worked with interior designers to modernise and upgrade the resort’s guestrooms combining several rooms into larger, and more luxurious suites. Rosewood Hotel and Resorts asked for the remodel to bring a new level of sophistication in keeping with the natural setting. OBMI delivered on all fronts by incorporating expansive terraces on the signature suites, hillside suites received their own private plunge pool offering beautiful views of Little Dix Bay.
Through OBMI’s architectural design and vision, Little Dix Bay maintains the natural beauty of the site, whilst enhancing guest experiences through improved land use and breath-taking new design. Rosewood Hotel and Resorts look forward to reopening Little Dix Bay’s doors after the 18-month renovation period and believe OBMI’s involvement will help reestablish its position as the Caribbean’s most sought-after destination.
Rosewood Little Dix Bay is targeted to reopen its doors in December 2017.
