On the same day that Stage One of the Guggenheim Helsinki competition will conclude, The Next Helsinki is launching their own international call for alternative solutions to attract the best ideas that they believe would better meet the needs and enhance the city of Helsinki, Finland.

The announcements of the regional winners for the Holcim Awards 2014 have begun -- with the first set of winners coming from the Holcim Awards for Europe. During a recent ceremony in Moscow, 12 projects from throughout the continent were recognized as top examples of sustainable construction that illustrate the evolving state of sustainable construction and address challenges in the building and construction industry. — bustler.net

A collaboration consisting of Foster + Partners, FR-EE (Fernando Romero Enterprise), and NACO (Netherlands Airport Consultants) won the international competition to design the new Mexico City International Airport in Mexico. The airport's design is surely aiming to set the standard for the airport of the future. Not only is the new structure expected to be one of the world's largest airports at 555,000 sq. meters, it also aims to be the world's most sustainable airport. — bustler.net

The next edition of the prestigious Buckminster Fuller Challenge has already begun! Every year, the highly competitive international challenge searches for the most inventive -- and effective -- holistic solution strategies to the world's most pressing problems. Since OMA won the competition in 2009, the Taipei Performing Arts Center in Taiwan is gradually coming to life with the recent celebration of its topping out ceremony. Meandering down a section of Robson Street on the iconic 800 block in downtown Vancouver, passers-by can sit, relax, play, and socialize on the "Urban Reef" installation. Designed by Kaz Bremner and Jeremiah Deutscher with local furniture collective Higher Works, Urban Reef won the inaugural VIVA Vancouver: Robson Redux design-build competition out of 78 submissions worldwide. — bustler.net
