Architecture and the City 2014 celebrates in San Francisco for the month of September
The 11th annual Architecture and the City festival is happening throughout San Francisco for the whole month. With "Home: My San Francisco" as this year's theme, the festival invites the public to join the fun with a variety of events and activities including behind the scenes features, walking tours, films, exhibitions, and lectures.
Details of Mandaworks’ first-prize Vaasan Raviradan master plan entry in Vaasa, Finland
Out of 63 submitted proposals, longtime collaborators Mandaworks and Hosper Sweden won first prize in an open international ideas competition to redevelop the former horse race track Vaasan Raviradan into a new mixed-use urban development in Vaasa, Finland. The design expands on Carl Axel Setterberg's 1860 city plan.
Mark your calendars for the IIDEXCanada 2014 expo and conference
IIDEXCanada, the country's national architecture and design expo and conference, will be celebrating its 30th anniversary at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this December. David Rockwell and Daniel Libeskind are scheduled as the 2014 keynote speakers.
The Architectural League of New York announces the Beaux Arts Ball 2014: Craft
The time has come for The Architectural League of New York's annual Beaux Arts Ball, taking place at Weylin B. Seymour's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York on Saturday, September 20. The 2014 theme, "Craft", celebrates the value of artisanship in architecture and multi-disciplinary collaboration in creating architecture. This year's co-chairs include Tod Williams and Billie Tsien.
Foster + Partners and FR-EE collaboration to design new Mexico City International Airport
A collaboration consisting of Foster + Partners, FR-EE (Fernando Romero Enterprise), and NACO (Netherlands Airport Consultants) won the international competition to design the new Mexico City International Airport in Mexico. The airport's design aims to set the standard for the airport of the future.
Results of the Rehabilitating Mapo Oil Depot into a Cultural Depot Park competition
The Seoul Metropolitan Government in Korea launched the Rehabilitating Mapo Oil Depot into a Cultural Depot Park international competition to gather ideas to preserve the abandoned Mapo Oil Depot, which stands as a historic icon to Seoul's industrial past. The notable jury -- which included architect Toyo Ito -- awarded three prize winners and nine Honorable Mentions.
Shortlist for RIBA Manser Medal 2014 Best New House in the UK
Established in 2001 to honor former RIBA President and notable home designer Michael Manser CBE, the Manser Medal recognizes private homes or major extension that exhibit innovation, sustainability, and style and were completed within the past year by a UK architect. The 2014 RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize shortlist
RIBA also revealed the 2014 Stephen Lawrence Prize shortlist. Dedicated to the memory of Stephen Lawrence—a teenager who aspired to become an architect but was murdered in 1993—the annual Stephen Lawrence Prize highlights emerging talent and working with small construction budgets.
