Professor Mark Jarzombek has been named interim dean of MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), effective July 1.
Jarzombek, who has served as SA+P’s associate dean since 2007, succeeds Adele Naude Santos, who announced on Jan. 28 that she would step down and return to the faculty after 10 years as dean.

A group of students at the Eindhoven University of Technology are trying to build a new, temporary version of the monumental church well before then, but with some notable differences. At just over 123 feet tall, their Sagrada Familia will be a 1:4 model of the original. It will be erected on a site in Finland, almost 2,000 miles north of Barcelona. After landing a $42,750 Innovation Fund grant from AIA for the project, the Vermont chapter purchased a 21-foot 1969 Airstream Globetrotter from a retired couple in central Vermont. Then it charged an undergraduate architecture class at Norwich University with redesigning and rebuilding its gutted interior.
The Archistream, as AIAVT has dubbed its mobile classroom, is now complete.

Kahn was one of three founding members of IDEA Office, formerly the Central Office of Architecture. He originally opened the office in 1987 together with fellow architects Ron Golan and Russell N. Thomsen. In 2009, he renewed his long-standing partnership with Thomsen to form IDEA Office.
