The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Architecture has shared information on its spring speakers and events as part of our semesterly Get Lectured look at what’s happening on campus for the new academic term.
The semester’s theme is ‘Affinities.’ The school shares: “Affinities connotes a natural attraction to a person, thing, or idea. This lecture series explores the intimate attractions among architecture, people, and the expanded environment. What affinities might we have for our buildings, and how can we build new affinities and affinity groups through empathic, entangled architectural production that cultivates a shared sense of belonging?”
The list of respondents to this prompt begins with designer Helena Sandman from Finland’s Leapfrog Projects on January 22. She is followed next on January 29 by Matter Design’s Brandon Clifford, who will then precede a lecture from the Arizona-based Tawaw Architecture Collective’s co-founder Wanda Dalla Costa on February 5.
Isabelle Ndoumy-Kouakou, recently of Rice University, visits next on February 7, followed by FUWOTO founder Deborah Garcia on February 26. Lola Shepard, a Partner at the Toronto-based practice Lateral Office will speak after their appearances on March 4, followed by Office for Political Innovation founder Andrés Jaque on March 27. The semester closes finally with a lecture from architect Matt Streid on April 8. More information about events at the Illinois School of Architecture this semester can be found here.
