Following last week’s look at an opening for a Designer / Project Coordinator at Cliff Garten Studio, we are using our Job Highlights series this week to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Design Lead at Den Outdoors.
The successful applicant will join Den’s small, fully-remote team in designing and delivering Den’s catalog of homes, cabins, and ADUs. Among the responsibilities will be the launching and maintenance of plan sets, the specification development for home designs on Den’s homebuilding platform and helping steer Den's architectural aesthetic. The role calls for residential architecture experience as a must, and preferred experience working with Revit and in startups.
Why the role interests us
The role at Den offers the latest insight into a new generation of architecture firms seeking to craft a more customer-friendly construction process. Similar to the workflow we previously explored at HOKO Design, the team at Den has sought to build a digital-first process that guides clients step-by-step through the design and delivery process.
In Den's case, clients begin by purchasing a template building plan from the firm’s catalog of farmhouses, tiny homes, cabins, backyard offices, and ADUs, before being prompted to customize the design through “minor and moderate changes” such as window and door positions, floorplan modification, and roof pitch. Den’s platform then enables clients to collect bids, hire a builder, and source materials through the firm’s Building Guides.
Den’s role represents the third example of 2022, where digital client processes have offered career opportunities for architects via our Job Highlights series. In July, we explored several open roles at Brooklyn-based HUTS, which offers an all-inclusive homebuilding service from land acquisition through construction. In April, meanwhile, we highlighted an open position at Los Angeles-based Connect Homes, which offers 15 standard models of customizable homes to customers, including permit filing, contractor procurement, and construction.
