A futuristic new headquarters for one of Portugal’s hottest companies will form the basis of an innovative hillside “smart valley” in the country’s Porto region according to renderings unveiled today by BIG.
Fashion retailer Farfetch will serve as the anchor in the Danish studio’s expansive new FUSE VALLEY development overlooking the Leça River in the town of Matosinhos.
From end to end, the nearly two-million-square-foot development creates an elongated and art-filled commercial village ideal for corporate and community use alike.
Twelve tailor-made individual buildings connect through a winding program of landscaped terraces that feature plazas, parks, and public courtyards along a central axis road. Each building represents a different aspect of Farfetch’s core business and will incorporate design elements like open attic mezzanines and biophilic interventions to create an immersive natural working environment for all of the company’s 3,000 employees. A walkable green roof and receding facades help expand the generous public realm.
“Rather than a corporate office complex, Farfetch’s future home in FUSE VALLEY will be a lively urban ensemble bringing every curator, creator, customer and collaborator together in the most innovative new neighborhood of the city. The urban fabric will allow FUSE VALLEY to grow and expand organically, like a natural village,” BIG’s founder said in a statement.
Twenty-four office buildings will be added in total with the remaining space being dedicated to local tech startups and other related business concerns. Construction of FUSE VALLEY is set to begin in early 2023 with an anticipated completion sometime in 2025.

I got curious what Farfetch was. Some kind of designer clothes hub. I looked at jackets:

$1500 for a distressed denim. You can easily drop ten grand on a casual outfit, not including underwear (I didn't have heart to look).
These are marvelous times.
They're a luxe shopping website basically. Surprised at the scale of this project given the company's size.
It's all funny money built on speculation and expectation.
^ The underwear's where they really get you (so to speak).
