As schools prepare for the Fall term, event programming is met with much excitement and careful planning as the community continues to navigate through the continued impact of the pandemic. However, with schools continuing to adjust and ensure the best safety protocols for their faculty and students, we kick off Archinect's ongoing Get Lectured Series with Harvard GSD's virtual Fall 2021 public lecture program.
The GSD shares, "This fall's program offers speakers and events from across the design disciplines, as well as the return of the biennial, student-organized Black in Design Conference (October 8, 9, & 10), with the theme "Black Matter: Celebrating Black Spatial Practices from the Magical to the Mundane."
Kicking off the month of September the GSD welcomes lectures from Robin Winogrond, co-founder of Studio Vulkan Landscape Architecture, on September 13, Vittorio Lampugnani of Baukontor Architekten on September 14, and Professor of English and Princeton University faculty in the Program in American Studies, the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies, and the Committee on Film Studies, Anne Anlin Cheng, will speak on September 21. The GSD Alumni Council will be presenting the "Design Impact: Following the Sun: Design Futures at the Intersection of Health, Equity and Climate Change" on September 23 and 24. This summit will "bring together a roster of global leaders to share their work and vision at the intersection of health, climate change, and equity."
In October Spiro Pollalis, Director of the Zofnass Program for the Sustainability of Infrastructure will discuss sustainability and climate change on October 4. A special Loeb Lecture from Reginald Dwayne Betts will present an excerpt of the solo show he has been developing based on his latest collection of poetry from, Felon on October 5. October 8 thru October 10 is the student-organized Black in Design 2021 Conference. Speakers include esteemed guests such and keynote from Mpho Matsipa & Lesley Lokko. Artist Zoe Leonard will speak with curator José Esparza Chong Cuy on October 12 and acclaimed author Jamaica Kincaid will speak on October 14.
Other exciting lectures and presentations during the month of October will be from Jade Kake of Matakohe Architecture and Urbanismwho will speak on "Indigenous Urbanism" on October 19, Swiss architecture firm Christ & Gantenbein will be in conversation with OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen on October 20, and Dr. Andrea Roberts of The Texas Freedom Colonies Project will present her lecture on October 25. The GSD introduces their Harvard Design Magazine #49 "Publics" issue launch and discussion on October 28 along with an exhibition “Interrogative Design: Selected Works of Krzysztof Wodiczko” with a pair of conversations with the artist on November 12. Other presentations in November include talks from Michael Twitty on November 5, Li Hu and Huang Wenjing of OPEN on November 10, and Wheelwright Prize Lecture given by architect, researcher, and educator Aude-Line Dulière on November 15.
