Bjarke Ingels, along with fellow BIG partner Jakob Lange, are heading to Burning Man this summer with the ORB, a giant reflective ball installation scaled to 1/500,000 of the earth’s surface. With a diameter of nearly 100 ft, the ORB will hover above The Playa, reflecting everything around it. According to Ingels, the idea behind the project is to "turn public life into public artifact."
With the festival just under two months away, the ORB is nearly complete. Carried out by the BIG Ideas project unit, they have funded the majority needed for 30 tons of steel and 1000 hours of welding of the structure as well as 1500 sewing hours. But, to raise the last $50,000 USD for the project, the team has launched an Indiegogo campaign. In exchange for support, donors can receive a range of perks, including postcards, posters, an engraved mini, steel version of the ORB, and come Burning Man, a private visit inside.

just one?
Bjarke Ingle's frenetic pace to seem always with it. Nothing like paying a steep fee to go to the middle of the desert to be "free". Don't think the dude will age well at all. He reminds me of the Tomato snowboarder - always 14 years old.
The snowboarder might say: orb backwards is bro, Bro.
Completely unoriginal idea (copied from Anish Kapoor) that's he is too cheap to fund himself.
Bjarke is Danish for wanker.
that's a good laugh, thanks Miles.
Copied from Kapoor ? you mean Escher right ? Kapoor at least had the decency to alter the form a bit to not show it as too unoriginal
What a blast from the past. I loved that movie as a kid.
It should be made of wood and set ablaze afterwards, this has nothing to do with Burning Man.
Sorry, Barjke, already been done. Here is a 100 foot diameter PAGEOS satellite that was launched in 1966 (inflated after achieving orbit).
Oh, sure, but is it scaled to 1/500,000th of the Earth's surface like B'yarks?
Other thought: wouldn't it be great if it read "Happy Birthday!" in 30-foot letters?
Yes, it happens to be the same diameter (100 feet). So, Bjark is using 50 tons of formed steel plates when he could have used 50 pounds of Mylar.
it reminds me of this:
bonus archy points to those who know the reference without using the googles.
All we need is Sir Sean in a red slingshot mankini.
Into a world of eternal life, he brought the gift of death.
Win!
clash of the titans original- after beheading the the Cracken ?

Welcome to the internet!

Thanks, I thought it looked worse somewhere.
It seems like there must be an cheaper way to gaze admiringly at ones own reflection.
I'm pretty sure this one will be available in a few days, they should just borrow it:
