Steven Holl has a new monograph that any diehard fan would love to get their hands on. Authored by writer and architecture critic Robert McCarter — who has known and taught with Holl for more than 30 years, the book features a comprehensive analysis behind Holl's most significant built and unbuilt works, starting from 1974 to the present day.
Thanks to Phaidon, Archinect is giving away five copies of the monograph to our readers!

From seasoned practitioners to first-year students, readers can gain unique insight into Steven Holl's design process, ideas, methods, and construction materials. The monograph showcases hundreds of colorful photographs of projects like the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, the St. Ignatius Chapel in Seattle, and the Bloch Building at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, to name a few. And of course, the book features a multitude of the architect's signature watercolor drawings.
Readers get to flip through experiential “walk-throughs” of the buildings that describe the "musical and organic qualities" that Holl incorporates into each space. The walk-throughs also illustrate how he plays with elements like surface, space, and light.
