Alessandro Mendini receives the latest European Prize for Architecture
The 2014 European Prize for Architecture, regarded as one of Europe's highest architectural awards, went to iconic Italian architect and designer Alessandro Mendini. A few of Mendini's projects include the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, the Paradise Tower in Hiroshima, and the Proust Armchair, among many others.
Finalist concepts for the “From Those – You Saved” Commemoration, winner chosen in April
The Remembrance and Future Foundation organized the "From Those – You Saved" competition to build a commemorative monument that expresses gratitude to the Poles who rescued Jews during German occupation in the WWII era. The memorial project, currently valued at US$800,000, will be built in the Muranów district of Warsaw.
24H competition winners address educational needs in the Sub-Saharan Africa region
Participants only had 24 hours to design a schoolhouse trailer in Sub-Saharan Africa in the latest 24H competition, which highlights social issues, climate change, and modern sociologic problems.
Bamiyan Cultural Centre competition results announced
UNESCO Afghanistan revealed the winning design and runners-up for the Bamiyan Cultural Centre Design Competition. The competition organizers regard the project as country's path towards reconciliation, peace restoration, and economic redevelopment after enduring years of political conflict. On the other hand, an online petition was recently set up requesting further evaluation and revision of the winning designs.
Provencher_Roy wins RAIC 2015 Architectural Firm Award
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada announced Montreal-based firm Provencher_Roy as the 2015 Architectural Firm Award recipient. The award recognizes a reputable Canadian firm's accomplishments in architectural quality and innovation as well as significant outreach in education and professional organizations.
A look at the Canadian Wood Council’s 2014 Wood Design Awards winners
Wood Design & Building Magazine of the Canadian Wood Council celebrated the winners of their annual Wood Design Awards program, which highlights projects in North America — and a few international ones — that demonstrate excellence and creativity in wood architecture. Design Museum’s DESIGNS OF THE YEAR 2015 nominees
The Design Museum's annual Designs of the Year showcases of some of the world's innovative works in Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphic, Product and Transport. MVRDV (whose Markthal Rotterdam project is pictured above), Frank Gehry/Gehry Partners, Ateliers Jean Nouvel, and Herzog & de Meuron are some of the Architecture category nominees.
