• Boston wins U.S. Olympic Committee's bid for 2024 Games: Beating out Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, DC, Boston's Olympic campaign estimates it can finance the Games with $4.5B in private funds and $5B or so in publicly-funded infrastructural projects.

Thursday, January 8:

• Archinect Sessions is back with Episode 11, "Another year, Another Architecture", with the multi-talented Mitch McEwen: Mitch talks opportunity and collaboration in Detroit, and opines on architecture's shifting professional identity.
• Five firms shortlisted for Mackintosh Library renovation after devastating fire: Glasgow School of Art will choose between Avanti Architects, John McAslan + Partners, LDN Architects LLP, Page \ Park Architects and Purcell by the end of March 2015.

Wednesday, January 7:

• Driving in the US is coming to a standstill, and that's a good thing: The Federal Highway Administration released a report anticipating no-change in driving per capita, which means less money allocated for large driving infrastructural projects.

Tuesday, January 6:

• President Bill Clinton to deliver keynote address at 2015 AIA National Convention: He's the only announced speaker so far, and AIA usually selects a sampling of figures across political, architectural or (occasionally) pop music-al lines.
• California finally breaking ground on first high-speed rail segment: Embroiled in political controversy and long-winded debates, HSR must work quickly to meet its 2028 LA-SF deadline, and finish within the federally-funded window.

Monday, January 5:

• Christo wins court judgement, keeping alive his vision for 5.9 miles of silver fabric above the Arkansas River: Opponents to Christo's plan claimed that Colorado's Bureau of Land Management's initial approval of the project was not compliant with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. (UPDATE: The headline refers to the project being 5.9 miles long; it is in fact for 42.)
• Another big concrete panel falls off Zaha Hadid-designed library: After two big sky-falls in July 2014 and January 2015, the building has been cordoned off and student access limited to a safe passageway. An independent consultant is investigating the cause.

• Public Transit Helps New Yorkers Earn More Money: NYU's Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management released a study showing that median income and unemployment rates correlate with access to public transit – the better the transit access, the higher median income and lower unemployment rates.
