• NYC's historic 190 Bowery part of massive buy-up by developer RFR Holdings: RFR plans to spend upwards of $900M on property and land purchases by the end of 2014. One of its recent buys included the former "72-room bohemian dream house" at 190 Bowery.

• MacArthur Fellow Rick Lowe Reclaims Urban Neighborhoods Through Art: Lowe is currently a resident at Philadelphia's Pearl Street Project, which aims at making dimly-lit alleyways more safe. He is also the founder of Houston's Project Row Houses.

• Zaha Hadid launches luxury homeware range with Harrods: Pieces include a £9,999 serving platter, £43 cups and saucers, and £4,860 Field of Towers chess set.

• Archinect is at the Salk Institute, covering the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture Conference: The three-day conference focused on topics in neuroscientific research that serve the architecture profession, including advances in mobile brain-computing interfaces and the neurological data behind architectural experiences.

• Construction on Jean Nouvel’s MoMA Tower will Finally Move Forward: After being stalled for nine years, the tower's developer secured enough additional square-footage to have construction start later this year. Previous news on the tower's design can be found here.
• The Getty Foundation selects the first 10 modern projects to receive grants in worldwide preservation effort: Selected projects include Jørn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House, Louis Khan's Salk Museum, Alvar Aalto’s Paimio Sanatorium, the Eames' house, Max Berg’s Centennial Hall in Wrocław, Poland, and Le Corbusier’s apartment and studio in Paris.

Wednesday, September 17

• Hernan Diaz Alonso to follow Eric Owen Moss as Director of SCI-Arc, + Deans List sneak peek: Also principal at Xefirotarch, Diaz Alonso will be the first director to head SCI-Arc solely at its relatively new location in downtown Los Angeles.
• Eisenhower Memorial to consider plan that removes most of Frank Gehry’s designs: It seems like every week there's a new kerfuffle over Gehry's design, and it's no different this time around. The Commission will vote this Wednesday (9/24) between two design revisions, one which scraps nearly all of Gehry's elements.

• Prada Marfa saved: Non-profit arts organization Ballroom Marfa successfully negotiated with the Texas Department of Transportation to have the Prada Marfa property classified as an art museum, and therefore not subject to removal as an illegal advertisement.
• With newly proposed sky gondola, you could get from Brooklyn to Manhattan in less than four minutes: Seems far more likely than LA to SF in 20 minutes.

Monday, September 15

• Sheila Kennedy of KVA MATx wins 2014 Berkeley-Rupp Prize: The prize is given to a professional who advances gender equity in architecture as well as sustainable causes. Kennedy was the first woman to hold the title Professor of the Practice of Architecture title at MIT’s School of Architecture & Planning.
