Regional winners for Holcim Awards 2014 - Latin America
As the third in a series of five events, the Holcim Awards 2014 Latin America competition recognized 12 projects from throughout Latin America during an awards ceremony in Medellín. The projects are deemed as exemplary models of the Holcim Awards standards of environmental, social and economic performance. Hufton + Crow named as Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year 2014
Nick Hufton and Al Crow of Hufton + Crow were the 2014 recipients of the prestigious Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year award. Hufton + Crow won the prize for their interior photograph of Zaha Hadid Architects' Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“Contour Crafting” 3D-print constructor wins NASA Tech Briefs’ Create the Future Design Contest 2014
"Robotic Building Construction by Contour Crafting" by educator Behrokh Khoshnevis of the University of Southern California was named the grand prize winner of the Create the Future Design Contest for 2014. Contour Crafting has received attention for its ability to 3D-print complete large-scale structures, greatly reducing time and cost of construction.
Taylor Cullity Lethlean wins Landscape of the Year Award for the second year in a row
It's another lucky year for Australian landscape architecture firm Taylor Cullity Lethlean, who won the World Architecture Festival Landscape of the Year award once again. For 2014, the firm received the top Landscape award for the National Arboretum in Canberra, Australia, designed in collaboration with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer.
Snøhetta chosen to design Norway’s new colorful banknotes
Norway's central bank, the Norges Bank, will be rolling out some fresh Norwegian banknotes, artistically designed by Snøhetta and graphic design firm The Metric System with Terje Tønnessen. Snøhetta's colorful pixellated designs on the back side are accompanied by the Metric System's designs on the front, which features more traditional cultural icons throughout Norwegian history.
Henning Larsen Foundation launches Architecture and Film Competition
The Henning Larsen Foundation just launched their international Architecture + Film Competition, which aims to revive the use of architecture on film and garner new innovation in the unique genre. Drawn from the similarities between architecture and film, the competition focuses on the experience of architectural space over time.
SPF:a’s Wallis Annenberg Center recognized at California Preservation Design Awards
Since the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts by Studio Pali Fekete Architects (SPF:a) broke ground in 2010, the new arts building won a Rehabilitation Award at the 31st California Preservation Design Awards Ceremony. Located in sunny Beverly Hills, CA the complex also includes the restored and renovated historic 1934 Beverly Hills Post Office building.
U.S. Department of Agriculture launches Tall Wood Building Prize Competition
The U.S. Department of Agriculture officially launched their U.S. Tall Wood Building Prize Competition. As the first step of a new USDA and forest industry initiative to help U.S. rural communities and preserve national forests, the competition is searching for the best alternative solution approach to designing and building taller wood structures.
