The regional Holcim Awards 2014 winners for North America
Following the European announcement, the U.S./Canada jury led by Toshiko Mori selected 13 projects from across the U.S. and Canada. Winning projects include those by students, emerging professionals, and familiar firms -- like BIG, the "Hy-Fi" by The Living's David Benjamin, Sheila Kennedy, and NADAAA. Barcelona wins Grand Prize in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge for Europe
As one of five winning cities, Barcelona took the Grand Prize for Innovation of €5 million in the first European edition of the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge. More than 150 top cities from 28 European nations entered the cities competition, which asked participants to send their most innovative ideas that address Europe's timely pressing issues.
Sheila O’Donnell + John Tuomey named as 2015 RIBA Royal Gold Medal recipients
Irish architects Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey are the latest to join an illustrious group of architects to receive the prestigious RIBA Royal Gold Medal for 2015. Awarded since 1848 and approved by the Queen of England, the Gold Medal recognizes a lifetime's work of an architecturally influential person or group.
Finalists for the 2014 Buckminster Fuller Challenge
Being selected as a finalist for the prestigious Buckminster Fuller Challenge is already quite an accomplishment. Out of 20 semi-finalists, seven proposals still have a chance to grab the $100,000 grand prize, which will support ongoing development and implementation of the winning proposal. Arup Germany/SolarLeaf, Studio Tamassociati, and Elemental win in 2014 Zumtobel Group Award
From 356 submissions to 15 nominated projects, three projects from Germany, Italy, and Chile won in their respective categories in this year's Zumtobel Group Award. The jury — chaired by MVRDV principal Winy Maas — distinguished the winners based on the key factor of innovation related to technicality, planning, and ecological and social challenges.
