while we're all sending/waiting for cd's, i'd like to congratulate quixotica on a fantastic job organizing us all, and a lot of patience with the continuous switches and changes of people dropping in or out. thanks!
I am in the process. Just hold out a tad longer (couple of days). I went on vacation and forgot all about it. Sorry. Just... a little... more... patience...
on another note. I think for the third swap, we need to make everyone say specifically that they want to be in on it. using the same list from the first round just didnt work this time around, way too many people who dropped out but never bothered to let us know. This way we will at least know they are checking the boards on a semi regular basis. so sign up people!
also, i just sent out my CD today. and by today, i mean this coming monday.
I still have yet to hear from Archinaut though. I've contacted him twice through archinect but he never responded. Does anyone know of another way to contact him? I sent him my address both times so maybe he has it...
there must be some way to close the loop for folks who didn't recieve CDs... if people made CD's but weren't able to reach the person they were going to send to, they could be re-routed - or something like that.
yeah guys, the way to close the loop is to find the person who should be sending to you, figure out who they were supposed to receive from and contact that person.
Lookin forward to it Wantan! sorry to say though, that archinaut was my person from last time, and i never received a cd either, you may want to consider getting in touch with architphil.
got it gabe! i'm excited to listen to it on the way back to the governor's school tomorrow. i think van's 'sweet thing' is the only track i already have (besides 'california dreamin' on vinyl/45).
i just wanted to publicly apologize for not sending my cd out yet. but i haven't gotten one either, so i guess i shant feel too awful.
but guess what?! i actually spent most of my holiday attempting to make a compilation that flowed swimmingly (ga ha ha haah). now i just have to make a cover.....
(wichita lineman, lb:) I have never heard any but the Glen Campbell version. Perhaps the REM would suit me better. But, um, Kool & the Gang? Hard to imagine.
ja, freekin
"wichita lineman" is a little too long for the name of a dog.
PsyArch, please don't feel bad for being late, as poor lletdownl is still waiting on mine!
lletdownl, honestly, I will mail it this week. Just listened to it twice on the drive back to Kentucky and it is fun - I just need to find a freakin' post office in Lexington! So sorry!!
I wrote a note to cris too because he is the sender to huanmic, who is my sender (who I still haven't heard from)... to see if cris would send to me in lieu of huanmic. Still haven't heard a response from cris though...
So, if bigness is out, and cris isn't available and I still don't hear anything from huanmic, maybe you can send to me. Let's see what pops up...
Wantan, Got your CD yesterday. As per your suggestion I listened while driving around the city last night. and then again when i was screen printing. I loved it. I hadn't listened to most of those artists before allthough some I've been meaning to check out for a long time. and I loved The Cinematic Orchestra so much that I'm going out today to pick up their cd. randar i drove around and listened to the mix for my own quality assurance and approval etc. it passed and i will mail it tomorrow. i still have received absolutely zero cd's (except for steven ward's) from this cd swap. float on...
well they say that santa fe is less than 90 miles away...well randar you cd is further away than that but is coming to albucrackee via the united states postal service...
Steven-
Received the cds this Monday (sometimes I think the mailman hates me,) just got around to popping them in tonight. (4 AM airport run, might as well get some work done and listen to some tunes right?) Great mix, I'll let the omission of Radar Love slide this time. I like Satchel's Pawnshop, very well might be the only C&W act with a horn section. I have some of the tunes on my mix going out (I swear I'll actually burn it this weekend!) and lots of stuff that I'd never heard before. The Robert Mitchum pairing is the best.
I just got an album from Howe Gelb called 'Sno Angel Like You which I think you and Liberty might enjoy, maybe vado too. It kind of reminds me Townes van Zandt except with a gospel choir. It's been wearing a rut in my hard drive lately. Give it a listen.
Glad you like. Among Satchel's Pawn Shop are two architect friends of mine. One of 'em is the guy who wrote/sang 'Drivin' Around'. The singer of 'Cool Like Robert Mitchum', however, sells crab cakes at fairs and festivals. The horn section was added about 3-4 yrs ago. You should hear their versions of 'Watermelon Man' and '300 LBS'!
Will have to check out Sno Angel.

23 Be Thankful for What You’ve Got, William DeVaughn
FOG, thanks for the tip, I'm really into gospel/spiritual music lately. No, seriously - we had a workshop on it at Kentucky GSA that was mind-blowing for me, I've always liked that kind of music but understanding just a few basics of how/why it sounds like that makes me appreciate it all the more.
Steven I know we put the same Cake song on our mixes, but I am just sick that I didn't also include that William DeVaughn song on mine! I had been listening to it over and over before leaving for GSA and then I totally didn't connect it with my driving cd mix, don't know why. Excellent song.
Still can't get enough of Handcuffed to Fence in Mississippi- so optimisitc!
Also check out the LadyKillers soundtrack for more Gospel. It was an awful Coen Brothers movie but T-Bone Burnett delivers once again on the soundtrack.
gabe, after all the previous confusion and forgetting to mail the cd amidst moving, it's finally en route. luckily we're both in boston so it should reach you soon.
vado- recieved it saturday, haven't gotten a chance to listen.
ap- sorry for the delay, just went out. between quitting tqo jobs, finding a place to live in los angeles from albuquerque, and getting 3 grad school loans taken care of, it somehow slipped to the bottom of priority, but i assure you it is worth the wait.
CD Swap!
ooooh i want in on this!!
too late for this one i guess but if there's another one can i be added please please please :)
while we're all sending/waiting for cd's, i'd like to congratulate quixotica on a fantastic job organizing us all, and a lot of patience with the continuous switches and changes of people dropping in or out. thanks!
I'd also like to thank quixotica and (quietly, slightly ashamed) assure LB that her disc will be in the post within days.
Architphil,
I am in the process. Just hold out a tad longer (couple of days). I went on vacation and forgot all about it. Sorry. Just... a little... more... patience...
Steven,
Your CD's in the mail! (finally)
I haven't heard anything from huanmic - still involved?
*doffs cap* just doin my job ma'am
on another note.
I am in again... just love music.
aml- its finally on its way- but hopefully you will think it was worth waiting for... even i'm pretty excited by it.
i think the mood of the mix is "thursday afternoon pre-emptive sunset"
i'll post the tracklist when i know you've got it.
still nothing from susan surface....
quixotica, you CD is in the mail as of yesterday!
I still have yet to hear from Archinaut though. I've contacted him twice through archinect but he never responded. Does anyone know of another way to contact him? I sent him my address both times so maybe he has it...
absofreakinglutely worth waiting for randar...
FOGLite's 2 from me should be there by monday or tuesday. went out a couple of days ago.
there must be some way to close the loop for folks who didn't recieve CDs... if people made CD's but weren't able to reach the person they were going to send to, they could be re-routed - or something like that.
Still waiting to hear from huanmic...
can I play ... how can I get a swapper?
chairman, sounds great, can't wait!
yeah guys, the way to close the loop is to find the person who should be sending to you, figure out who they were supposed to receive from and contact that person.
Lookin forward to it Wantan! sorry to say though, that archinaut was my person from last time, and i never received a cd either, you may want to consider getting in touch with architphil.
quixotica, so you organized everything and did not get a cd? or did you end up getting one from the next person on the loop?
got it gabe! i'm excited to listen to it on the way back to the governor's school tomorrow. i think van's 'sweet thing' is the only track i already have (besides 'california dreamin' on vinyl/45).
yay! new stuff! nice cover, too. thanks.
i just wanted to publicly apologize for not sending my cd out yet. but i haven't gotten one either, so i guess i shant feel too awful.

i'm interested in seeing some tracklists people!

I finally got it in the mail today, lletdownl! So sorry it's taken me so long to find a post office. Should be there in a couple of days.
