strugs......

not true. I am 30 yrs old and Yale would NOT make me a financial offer without submitting my parents information in the Need Access Forms.

flickbee, it will difficlut to find both an Arch History and/or a studio course offered during summer. At least in California it is. You may want to check into it asap.

that is completely retarded.

but given the fact that they (and other ivies) have educated so many 'privileged' progeny over the years, i guess they don't want to leave any loopholes. still...as strugs said "ridiculous"

hmmm, well I know that I met some set of conditions which meant that I didn't have to submit parental info on that thing for Yale....but maybe the system could already sense that I was going to be rejected so it just let it be.

flickbee, if you need both studio and history, look into ucla's jumpstart or sciarc's making and meaning program. pasadena city college will have history and studio as well but you should check to see if their studio will meet the requirement of the school where you end up (it's basically an intro course). their history courses are 3 units vs 4 at ucla, dunno about sciarc's. ucla and sciarc will run you $2-2.5k but i'd imagine you would get more out of their studio than pasedena's. but if you need to save $ (like the rest of us) look into pcc.

According to my fiancee in psychology almost all the schools decide at the same time, and have the same date one must accept by... this seems to make a little more since, no? or are people having fun with the torture like me...

one more thing....I just called the GSD....if you're interested, all decision letters will be mailed out at the end of the month....and they can't give decisions out over the phone....and they won't even if you say, "c'monnnnn, how about a hint..." ...and they don't have a very good sense of humor.

If you meet certain criteria (like having been born before 1982) then you don't have to submit parental data. HOWEVER, most schools require it IF you want to be considered for grants.

"uh, mom...i know you haven't supported me for 15 years now, but...um...could you please write a note to the schools I've applied to and tell them you'll be happy to surrender your retirement to pay for your adult son's masters' degree?"

your right, you can apply (as I did) and not supply the parental info for the Yale specific forms, but once you have been accepted, they will offer no grants w/o prying into everyones bank account.

I went back and forth on this for a while with them. It seems rediculous to me as well.

yale's need access finaid form requires everyone to submit parental financial info unless you have not been a dependent of your parents for the past 10 years...so yes you can be 30 and still need to file all that crap. what beats me is why they need to know the make and model of my mother's car. maybe i was rejected because my mom drives a minivan.

both are great schools.

if you decide to go to UT you will live in Austin, honestly one my favorite cities.

all MIT's keep in mind that they have a sister program with the GSD, so if you are at MIT you can take classes at Harvard and vise versa. This does not include studios.

joe architect-
asu's m.arch program is accredited. they are a 4+2 school though, so they don't offer a 5 year b.arch program. i went there for my undergrad degree (b.s. arch. design) and was impressed with their graduate program, especially the faculty.

more info on accreditation

thanks wilday, so much for listening to non-archinect people... I would have seriously thought about applying there if I would have checked on my own. went out there to see the cubs spring training last year and loved it (except for the sprawl)

two-headed boy and skeerd-
thanks for informing me about the california studio and history options. i'm currently looking for programs in chicago during the summer, i know chicago city colleges offer the history course i need, and it may be possible to see what's available at uic and or iit, or even the art inst-if there's a studio there. again, time to gripe about the lack of arch options in chicagoland.
sorry to bring the thread back to so 2 hours ago!

Wow! A lot of people are getting offers of admission from MIT.
Congrats to all of you. For those of you not accepting the offer, would you mind giving me your real name, address and social security number so I can be you and attend instead?

big letter from penn yesterday, but only a 4,200$ grant, which they specify is "need based," although i need more than that... From columbia: the latest student works book. very well put together. And the GSD sent me an email with "names and email addresses of current students who can answer some of your questions about life at the GSD." [i hope they dont give everyone the same names... poor current students.] no word from mit (probably means reject at this point).

congrats to everyone who got something from someone!

thanks standardsofa! is it me or that seem sort of late? did they specifically say that the mail notifications, or do you think they might email them? also, are you applying to the 2 year program or 3+?

it is late, though i expect they'll come out a little before then. i talked to Ann Evans and i'm pretty sure she said that they'd be mailed, which i took to mean by post. so, i can't provide a definitive answer there. anyway, good luck and i'll let you know if i hear anything.

What about you others who have similar options?

Ugghhhh.....waitlisted at Penn March II. That is sort of like a half decision that really does me no good. I'm almost as anxious to hear about where I can't go as I can go. That way I can stop all these relocation secenario strands running through ole duders head.

So, does getting waitlisted really ever come through for anyone? They always admit many more than will actually accept, so I guess that means I am in a defenite second tier fairly far from the top of the list. Are there positions on a waitlist? Can I be near the top, if that's possible? Has anyone out there been waitlisted and actually ended up going?

This is just great, it opens up a whole avenue of things to worry about. I will never willingly do this to myself again. Oh the agony!!

Congrats to all those who got in today!!! Here's hoping for word from UCLA tommorrow.

Rejection letter from Penn today. That's ok.

BUT I received a pink slip from the mailman saying that they were unable to deliver a "large envelope, magazine, catalog, etc.". HEY BUDDY, maybe if you didn't cram those two circulars in there first! I'm waiting on the GSD and nothing else, sooooo how big is that GSD acceptance envelope?

Yale: -
Penn: -
Columbia: +

I got the hard copy of the letter from UCLA today...

If you're wondering....it says "the computer plays an increasingly integral role in [their] teaching." And also, LA has film makers.

There was no financial aid info.

Also, apparently they didn't read my transcripts b/c they think I need to take a bunch of random stuff that I've already taken...

orEqual,

I recieved my GSD admissions package yesterday (NYC). It is a big envelope with an 8.5 x 11 folder and two smaller books (approx. 3/8" -and 3/4" thick - non-bendable) The two books are the GSD catalog and another book of information. It didn't fit in my apartment sized mail box so it was with my doorman.

So, there is a good chance that your large magazine, catalog, etc is it!!

Hey people!! cool thread you got going here. I've started living by the pc and checking my e-mails at least 500 times more a day since discovering this page (aren't u supposed calm-down when u hear from others?)

I'm from Turkey, have applied to the M.ArchII programs of
Parsons, Pratt, GSD (M.DesS program), USC, Sci-Arc and UCLA
accepted to Parsons and USC, haven't heard from the others yet..
Anyone have any idea about USC?? --I'm interested in the computer-generated-form stuff by the way..

Good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to all who got good news!!

has anyone been rejected from MIT yet? i'm afraid this is going to be like the yale scenario two weeks ago. everyone gets an email acceptance and then the rest of us go home a few days later and get paper rejections...

Well, given my rejection from Berkeley (and expected rejection from Columbia) and my lack of other attractive options, I may be accepting at UIC. There's been alot of talk about the shortcomings of programs in Chicago, but I visited UIC a few weeks ago and have to say everyone I spoke to and interacted with was friendly and helpful and really focused on the needs of the students. I wasn't even botherd by the architecture facilities, which were much better than the rest of the UIC campus buildings.

So, my point? Is UIC really all that bad? Sure, not anywhere near the calibre of the Ivys or some other state schools, but still an ok architecture education? Just trying to figure out what I'm about to get myself into.
