switcheroo....I also applied to Wash U Stl & ASU....still haven't heard back from ASU, but I'm not holding my breath or anything.....I wasn't able to open the second attachment...did it say anything profound?
switcheroo.....(whoops, forgot a few things)....any tips for visiting? (I still haven't visited the campus yet b/c I haven't really had the time yet but I'm going soon) I don't mind the May start date....anywhere south of here is warmly welcomed (I'm tired of living in upstate NY)
It's about to be tomorrow. Has no one heard from Berkeley? And if not, why on earth would they tell us today when they knew that would just make for seriously anxious applicants?
I have now received feedback from all of my schools:
IIT: Accepted
RISD: Accepted
Cincy: Accepted
I got Cincy and RISD today. Today! Cincy is asking for a response RECEIVED by Friday. Is it me, or is that a little odd? And there was nothing in the letter about an open house. Did I miss that? Anyone else in the same boat as me?
I had pretty much figured I wasn't getting into RISD or Cincy and had set myself on going to IIT, but now I'm getting really excited about Cincinnati. I was all set, and now I don't know what I'm going to do anymore! Egad!
poor andrea. im with you. you have to think tomorrow for sure, right? just put it out of your head.
its probably that extra damn statement they had us write that's taking them so long getting through all the applications.
Once in high school english, after reading the story of Sisyphus, I was given an assignment to create an eternal punishment for a special group of sinners. True to my slacker form, I didn't put much of any thought into it, and reluctantly created a slightly below mediocre special hell for people who failed to use turn signals or something like that.
I was later much more intrigued by this assignment than I was in high school, and I've always thought in the back of my mind about other good eternal punishment scenarios.
Well.....we have another!!! I, dblefere, for sins committed against humanity, am banished to a lifetime (ie, another week) of waiting on an e-mail, letter or phone call from from someone (ANYONE!!) in the architecture admissions offices of Columbia, UPenn and/or UCLA, that I know will be arriving any second, and yet repeatedly and increasaingly reliantly fails to materialize. The inbox (4) on my hotmail is to me, as the rock is to sisyphus. I see that I have mail and in the second that it takes for the inbox to load I think "Ok, this is it, this is my fate," momentarily feeling a sense of accomplishment. And then on I read "Travelzoo's Top 10", "RE: dude we were loaded last night", "RE: dude let's get loaded tommorrow", and lastly "Your Archinect Weekly."
The rock is back at the bottom.....
Anyway, this is me saying....this is quite possibly the most frustrating process I have ever been through to date. I can imagine only divorce proceedings, or being prescribed medicine that cannot be administered orally ("Moon River....") being much more taxing.
hello! i applied to masters of columbia, pratt and syracuse..
syracuse will notify u if u are missing anything and by email too. pratt will give u call if theres a problem
columbia? i waited and waited...its the first on my list, and i got accepted there, so i will most likely go there :) is anybody going to the open house on april 5th? its for graduate school...
Sorry about the repeat. You have to scroll down to 'Morningside Professional.'
Just in case you need a break from this tread, there's also a great article in the NYTimes about college admissions and people applying to 20 different schools.
Hey folks, my first post on this website but lonnnng time lurker.
Heres my rundown so far
Yale: Reject
UW: Reject (as of yesterday March 20th)
Cincy: Heard Nothing
Illinois (Chambana): Nothing (I called today and guy on the phone confirmed they are only 1/2 done with notifications)
Seriously folks, this thread is freakin madness. And to the above - 20 schools? How thin do people feel they need to spread themselves?!
Just got the acceptance from U of Toronto earlier today. Soooo relieved !! Lookin' forward to making a trip to the city in a few weeks. Now gotta wait on Berkeley and UCLA....ugh..
Man, I leave town for one night and this thread explodes.
UW - accepted
Yale - rejected
UT - accepted (though I haven't received any letter. My web status was updated last week.)
No, I'm waiting on Berkeley, MIT, and UPenn. Starting to get anxious. I have no desire to go to UPenn...not sure why I applied there. I'm starting to think I'm not getting into Berkeley or MIT, which means I will probably go to Austin. This also makes me anxious as Austin happens to be in Texas. I'd rather have only gotten into UW so I could happily move to Seattle. In my situation I would be foolish to pick UW over UT now. Damn! C'mon Berkeley!
guiggster are you visiting UW? if so where are you travelling from? i'm trying to visit it (but haven't booked airfare yet) and i'm coming from boston. why would you choose ut over uw?
I can't visit anywhere because I'm in Japan until August. I can't even see the place I'll be living in before I move in in August. Not ideal.
I'm thinking UT over UW based on the sustainability options offered. I also get the impression that it might be a stronger program...or at least have a stronger reputation. This is essentially a baseless impression though. Other peripheral considerations are that I was born in Austin, but have not been back since I was two, and my father taught there briefly, meaning I have family friends living there.
Emerson, I hear you. It doesn't make any sense for cincinnati to do that. I also found out that they aren't even in school this week so it's impossible for any of us who have not seen the school yet to even get a real look at what the program is like. They aren't back until Monday. How they give less than a week to decide is beyond me and has left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. I know they start in the beginning of June so they do need to make these decisions quickly, but I must say I think those DI ratings have gone to their heads.
just called columbia and they are still saying apps are "in review". i dont know if thats a lie or should provide some hope for those of us still waiting.
Is there anyone in NYC who got a phone call from the GSD still waiting on the acceptance package? If packages were mailed Friday, it should have gotten here by now...
Last night after getting a car wreck on the way come from work (some jerk ran a red light and hit me) I thought today has to be the day I hear something and my luck can't be bad enough to get in a wreck and then rejected.... SURE ENOUGH
ACCEPTED Columbia!!!!!!!! MSAAD!
Jonathan Chen - I really want to go to the open house but I don't know if I should wait to hear from other schools to decide... Unfortunately I only have the means to visit one school. Columbia is one of my top two though so I will probably see you there!!
As the one who opened this Pandora's Box of a thread, and then had to wait 1000 posts before you heard anything, you deserved some good news...sorry to hear about the car accident (but that does make for an epic story)...
Thanks guys! Yesterday, before I heard, I was searching for ways to improve my portfolio for next year. At least I know that I am in somewhere. It is still the only school I have heard from. Nothing from UCLA yet. I am in Missouri and can't wait to get outta here!
May I please request that you expedite your offers for admission to your graduate program. If you do not act in haste, I feel that many qualified applicants will attempt the dangerous but proven method of automobile accident en route to mailbox to improve their chance of acceptance.
congrats amanning! I hope you're doing alright though after your accident. :-/
guiggster - as mentioned before, Austin is supposedly far different than the rest of Texas. I believe it is still the live music capital of the US, which makes it especially attractive! Furthermore, UT is a great school (sad I didn't get in!). There are definitely the pros and cons for both UT and UW, but it sounds like you're already figuring that out for yourself. If I remember correctly, UT out of state is far cheaper than UW out of state. In fact, I thought UT out of state was cheaper than even UW in-state, but I certainly could be wrong about that.
Two schools left for me to hear from - Penn and SCIArc. Thus far it looks as if my only option is UW, which is fine with me. Anyone going to their open house??
whew. i just booked a whirlwind flight from new york to seattle back to boston. i'll be staying with my brother in new york on wed night before parsons open house on thursday. if berkeley accepts me, i'll deal with that when it comes. i'm trying to be calm about all of this but its quite the ordeal to visit places so far away on such a short time frame.
Andrea316, I just checked my status on the UCLA page you gave and it read that I had only submitted my application even though I received that email saying I was being referred for acceptance last friday so I wouldn't go by that. Don't get too discouraged!
I was thinking of visiting this weekend, too. I haven't been there yet and don't want to pick a school I've never been to. I hope there are students there working I can talk to.
accepted to grad schools yet?
someone got package of MarchII of harvard?

heard from UW - waitlisted.
but I'm in to UT Austin and Wash. U.
waiting on a couple more schools - longshots Rice and Penn.
Guiggster - Austin may be in Texas but it is nothing like the rest of the state. It's a city of blue in a sea of red.
just called columbia and they are still saying apps are "in review". i dont know if thats a lie or should provide some hope for those of us still waiting.
Is there anyone in NYC who got a phone call from the GSD still waiting on the acceptance package? If packages were mailed Friday, it should have gotten here by now...
brujit: into UT, wait at UW
8888: into UW, deny UT
???
That makes me feel better. I can stop trying to figure this stuff out.
THANK THE LORD!

Did you get into UCLA also?

salparadi - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to admissions committees! i don't know about 8888 but i'm first-professional...
topflite-- congrats!
i just got my acceptance for u of toronto as well. great school and city.
...by the way, can I borrow someone's car? I need to try something before the GSD envelopes arrive.
Thanks guys! Yesterday, before I heard, I was searching for ways to improve my portfolio for next year. At least I know that I am in somewhere. It is still the only school I have heard from. Nothing from UCLA yet. I am in Missouri and can't wait to get outta here!
Congrats to everyone else!
congrats amannng!
now, do i need a car wreck too?
*sigh*

Salparadi:
What are you going to do? I think I might just accept now, go visit, and decide later on. What other programs are you looking at?
congrats amanning! I hope you're doing alright though after your accident. :-/

Also, still no word from Cal?
congrats! amanning
thanks for opening this thread, cuz I skip one year of school and hope this post stays for the next year!
still no word from cal. their offices open in 13 minutes i assume so... then it's back to constant email-refreshing.
mab82 i'm going to the uw open house.
Andrea, did that page finally show a decision for you?
8888 - well, see you then!
Yes, a rejection letter.
I'm not sure yet Emerson, I'm planning to visit this weekend, as well as visit Ann Arbor. I have yet to hear back from the rest
