salparadi - thanks! Yah, that was my first thought: "isn't this sunday?"
strugs - thanks! Mail had yet to arrive Saturday (here in Brooklyn), so hopefully Monday?
netizen - Yup, I went to Berkeley. She didn't mention AP so I'm worried that it will probably be for 3.5 yrs. A few of my friends that applied over the past few years have not been admitted with AP. So . . . guess I'll find out Monday.
The reality of the cost will probably hit me tomorrow . . . eeek.
samsonoio---yeah you should definitely find out. most of the berkeley people i know from last year and the year before got AP at gsd. some didnt---its not a questionm of your abilities but usually boils down to not having taken enough studios or tech courses. but congrats again---and youll figure out payment somehow if you really want to go.
Has anyone ever gotten into the GSD without a call? I would like to know so I can decide if from now on I will enter my apartment past the mailboxes or just go through my window to avoid any more rejections.
i just got the letter from ut-austin, which was waiting for me when i got home from spring break. good news!
to those of you who also got the letter: were you admitted to the first-professional program? if so, did the letter mention your specific placement into the program? mine didn't, so i'm also sort of worried that it is for the duration of the program... i just sent an email.
waitlist at UBC (vancouver)
they didn't tell me what position I'm in yet. they're gonna get back to me on that.
give it to me straight, how many people generally get in from the waitlist for a MArch I program that admits 40-50 a yr????
has anyone heard from berkeley or know when their desicions go out?
i'm from the east coast and i'd like to book airfare to visit UW but if i get accepted to berkeley i'd like to visit there as well. and i'd like to fly cross-country only once.
Just a reminder to everybody in this Archinect thread… I know everyone is busy but, PLEASE tell the Universities that you have already decided against that you will not be attending next year. Thank you Thank you Thank you
i'm currently faxing my admissions acceptance form with a check mark next to "I SHALL enroll in the Masters Degree Program in the Summer of 2006...[at] the Georgia Institute of Technology." i'm moving to hotlanta, baby!
funny thing is, i still haven't heard from three schools yet. oh well, their loss!
gotta notify osu and umd that i'm rejecting their offers...
i suppose i'm also accepting the offer of rejection at yale, not that i have any choice. one less form to submit.
Switcheroo -- Congrats and good luck with the move to Georgia, but will you pleeeeease send Yale a letter accepting their offer of rejection? Because that is the new funniest thing I've ever heard. Can we all do it too, or does that deplete the funny?
I'll even draft it for us:
-------------------------------
Dear Bob,
After much deliberation, we have decided to accept your offer of rejection for the fall 2006 semester. It was an extremely difficult choice as there were many rejections to choose from. We appreciate your consideration, however, and we look forward to further rejection throughout our professional careers.
so I emailed cincy re: a moderate extension to their march 24th "deadline" and got this in response. ( i just heard on saturday )
"We have sent out our offer letters to coincide with our peer school's admission accept dates. We intend to fill our entering classes as we receive offer replies with preference given to those received by the deadline. We hope that you will give serious consideration to our nationally ranked program."
Are they serious? How can they expect people to decide by this date, I give them 3+ months of waiting and they give me less than a week?
ive had a splitting headache all morning ... but the laugh from the letter to bob cured me. or it could have been the three advil i took 20 minutes ago.
Has anyone in NYC received a package from the GSD yet? I heard that they were mailed Friday, so I'm thinking of running home at lunch to check my mail. Has anyone gotten anyhting in the mail today?
I'm in NE and I haven't yet gotten a package or letter from the GSD. I'm gonna go out on a very short limb here and assume that I didn't get in, and that they only mailed acceptances on Friday (not rejections). Either Priority Mail or a small first-class envelope would definitely have gotten here by now, if not on Saturday.
Random question: several people have mentioned that they got five-digit scholarships from schools like Columbia and GSD. How common is this among people who don't absolutely NEED it, but of course could seriously benefit from it? I was always under the impression that with the exception of a few like Rice and Princeton, professional grad schools are generally stingy about grants for all but the neediest (instead only offering loans to those beyond the cusp). Does carrying an undergrad loan help in getting grants?
I realize this is a personal topic, so I'm trying to be as general as possible--not asking for personal stories, just people's broader impressions based on what they've gathered from their peers.
so far i've heard from UT Austin and Wash U. - both Yes and i'm psyched b/c i had no idea where i could get in as i'm a first-professional with ZERO arch/art background.
also - any other ranking or school information other than Design Intelligence and ACSA?
my experience thus far (Michigan and GSD) suggests that they take the total cost of attendance, subtract your fafsa expected contribution from the total, give you the maximum $18,500 in federal loans, and then offer you grants to (partially) cover the rest. i think that no one who needs assistance will go to the GSD without taking loans.
the amount of the grant offered probably varies more per student, perhaps based on the order in which your application is received by the financial aid office. my grant was sufficient to cover the difference between my federal loans, expected contribution, and total cost of attendance. the financial aid handbook, however, warns that many students may end up needing to apply for additional private loans (more expensive fees, higher interest rates) to cover any additional need not met by their grant/loan package.
i do not expect that anyone needing less than $18,500 in financial assistance would be offered a grant from schools such as GSD. please keep in mind though that my experience is only as a successful applicant, based on what i've been offered, i have no authoritative or inside information on the subject.
joe architect -
it is first professional and i heard from UT on saturday the 18th (came in the mail and was postmarked the 15th)
i've now got to set up a day or 1/2 day to go visit the school - i think i'd prefer for them to have an open house day but apparently they prefer for students to visit individually.
i'm in austin - i couldn't believe it took four days for the letter to go about a mile...
my online status check hasn't changed...i'm wondering if it's b/c the letter said i'm into the arch school but it has to go thru the graduate admission center as a formality (for all graduate students)...
Spoke with Cal admissions office...admissions emails are allegedly coming today. Has anyone heard yet? Congrats to all of you who have been getting good news! I'm still with meta, vigggo, dusty, and amanning...
accepted to grad schools yet?

love it.
I'm with you odp1, the first thing a person should learn as an architect is to be poor... HA!
wondering if anyone has heard from Rice?

brujitadulce - where do you live? this wait is excruciating!!
Well then there is still hope that I have not recieved a letter from them yet since I am in Boston. thanks brujitadulce
for you austin folks, did they update the online app status check as well?
i'm in austin - i couldn't believe it took four days for the letter to go about a mile...

joe - are you applying for first professional?
my ut austin app status has not been updated online...
meta, vigggo, dusty... we're in the same boat.
I haven't heard anything at all from Columbia, GSD, SCI-Arc, UCLA, AA or Bartlett. No rejections no acceptances! It is killing me!
STRUGS--- I think we should definitely send a letter or two off in the mail. That is hillarious.
just spoke to the GSD....they are still in the process of mailing out packages for all programs.
yeah, I'm still waiting on UT-A.... they like torturing us
Spoke with Cal admissions office...admissions emails are allegedly coming today. Has anyone heard yet? Congrats to all of you who have been getting good news! I'm still with meta, vigggo, dusty, and amanning...
mnesikles-
i was just about the post the same thing- the GSD just started mailing out packages on friday, and they probably won't get to call everyone.
people asking about MIT- they will not call anyone, and rumor has it that they are sending out packages very very soon...
-to
brujitadulce, I did apply to the first professional program, and it is my first choice... hope to see you there if you decide to go
