i also talked to cal today. they said they were emailing decisions today, but then i asked "all of them" and they said they weren't sure yet but definitely by the end of the week. all so torturous.

Talked to Jim Kies at UCLA - said that they will be through emailing all of their acceptances and rejections by the end of the week.

He said that thye were running late with them and that all the schools seem to be as well.... OBVIOUSLY and unfortunately.

Andrea316 -

How do you know PennDesign was mailed this afternoon? Not that I am doubting your info; it's just that I've found them to be extremely tight lipped about when to expect a response.
thanks

bnev-I spoke with someone in their office. I said I applied for M.Arch 1 and wanted to know when to expect a decision and she said they had been mailed this afternoon and we should receive them by the end of the week. Fingers crossed! I really need some good news soon...

has anyone contacted SCIArc about when to expect notifications?? their little flyer said early April, but perhaps they'll send them out earlier...

i called GSD today and spoke with geri. she told me that my letter/ package is in the batch going out this friday. probably the "no" batch, i'd say. so late because *cough* they were trying to let everyone know at the same time. no response when i mentioned that some people had decisions since a week and a half ago. i lost my hope and i'm waiting on the 3 others - penn, mit, and columbia.

meta, vigggo, dusty, and amanning, i'm with you. welcome to another week full of anxiety.

I called Geri too and she confessed that all the architecture schools in the country conspired and decided to slowly trickle letters out in an effort to see if they could get this ridiculous thread to extend into the double-digit page counts.

Now that they've finished their cruel game, we should be hearing from everyone soon.

strugs, honestly I'm just excited that at it's current rate of advancement, this thread will bypass the "fancy graphics lovers" thread in total posts in about 3.75 days.

congrats to all who have been accepted!

I called the grad coordinator @ UT Austin School of Arch and was informed that the first batch of letters went out last week (as demonstrated by one poster chosen above). I inquired a bit further as to the MO of the committee on mailing out letters in separate batches and was told that the original mailing were the 'definites' and there were still apps that had not been "looked at" (WTF??!!), FWIW, plus those that had been considered less 'definite' have not been notified yet.

I'm waiting to hear about my status with the M.Arch/Urban Design (Post-professional degree) program. If anyone has been accepted into a post-professional @ UT, please let us know.

I can confirm the PennDesign packets. Saw them in the hall last night and saw two mail guys wheeling them out. There were like 10 mail bins.

3.75 days??? Have we not waited long enough for everything else? Can we not take destiny into our own hands and march toward (total posts) victory? I'm not sure what's more disturbing, my e-ject from Princeton and rejection from Yale, or the fact that 'Fancy Graphics Lovers' has the most posts.

whatever... UT has a crappy rule about not being able to gain residency while enrolled. Would have been expensive over the 4 yrs. Does anybody know how long a masters in urban planning/design takes?

at this point I am starting to think of how I can improve my portfolio in leaps and bounds over the next year.

Yupper never give up...one girl in my class applied and didn't get in anywhere and now she works as a cashier at Wal-Mart???? Honestly! It is quite sad and makes me just want to slap her around a little.

amanning...did you get the sense from kies that not all of the acceptance emails went on on fri? good luck.

It's going to be hard to reapply to a place you've been rejected from before. It's like they have something on you - and who wants to deal with that? Of course, it's probably a flaw in my personality that triggers such a fatalist thought, but that's me.

Mar 20, 06 4:58 pm  ·

i sort of see it the opposite. sure they "have" something on you, but there is nothing stronger than actually showing them how you have improved. i think that coupled with the fact that you're showing extreme interest in their program can only help you. because after all, schools want good students, but they what they really want are good, motivated students who WANT to go there.

i've applied to two of my previously rejected schools. got into one and im still waiting on the other.

Congratulations on getting in to one of your choice schools. Frankly, I'm a little reticent on revamping my portfolio at this point, because I had completed it at the end of receiving my B.Arch and have done little professionally to add to it right now. Honestly, if I don't get in with what I have right now, then I'm resigned to not get in at all, which is not entirely a bad thing.

I agree with MArch 06.
I only applied to schools this year that I was rejected from last year (5 of the 9). I've been accepted to one so far and waitlisted at one as well. If you don't get in anywhere, spend the time to figure out why and if you want to make it happen, make it happen...

i hear you with the portfolio. unlike you, i did do work to my post undergrad work. i suppose if you don't have that opportunity it can be hard. i'd recommend a summer program, preferably at a school you want to go to. nothing supplements your portfolio more than meeting people and establishing relationships.
good luck!

MArch06 Kies definitely indicated that all the acceptances have NOT gone out yet. Perhaps they are doing it by last name or some other stupid ordering system like that. He said rejections have been sent but there will be more on the way.... "we have to be very careful that we send the right thing to the right person" No shit. I would kill them if I got accepted then they were like just kidding.

addictionbomb.

that's just me speculating. lets just say im not surprised by what kies has told amanning. i had a meeting scheduled with him, email him the day before to confirm, show up that next morning only to find out he had called in sick. now whether i believe he was sick or not...he could have at least emailed me or had someone at the office do so. i took off a morning from work for that.
he's just not with it.

I was just informed by one of the graduate directors at UT-Austin that the applicant pool for the arch grad program this year is 2x as large as normal. This would explain the delay, but actually brings up more questions than it answers. *sigh*...

MArch06 -- interesting comments on kies...i guess now i should know what to expect when i try to set up a meeting with him. i'll be applying for march I for '07. maybe a confirmation call the day of so i don't waste a work day. that really sucks btw

brocc.

in hindsight i should have called that morning. i didn't. he still just rubs me as unprofessional. my question for him had to do with advance standing. when he finally got back to me [after the missed meeting, for which he never apologized or even acknowledged] he sent me some boiler-plate email about how they don't typically grant AP.
finally it dawned on me that he's just a lackey and if i want any worthwhile info i need to go over his head. so i did and mark lee was very helpful.
good luck next year.

thanks MArch! that's pretty lame. at this point i'm trying to get a basic tour of the facilities and ask general questions that aren't answered in the brochure...do you think it's even worth my time to go through kies or should i try to contact someone like mark lee from the start? appreciate your help!

Mar 20, 06 6:09 pm  ·

MArch n' unemployed

well i think it would depend on what kind of info you wanted. if its just basic info, tours of the facilities and things of that nature, i'd go through kies...just call first. ;)
if your questions are more specific to the program, i mean real specific...like [in my case] you wanted to know about advanced standing then a department chair like mark lee is a better place to go.
now by no means am i an expert in the inner workings of UCLA...all i can't tell you is what i experienced. maybe try jim and if he proves to be as worthless as he was with me, don't wait around...if you know what i mean.
good luck with it.
