W Residences Dubai architectural model QZY Models

Project introduction

W Residences Dubai - Downtown is a high-end co-branded independent residential project jointly built by Marriott International and Dar Al Arkan, the largest listed real estate developer in Saudi Arabia. In the heart of downtown Dubai, W Residences has a panoramic view of the core scenery of Dubai, such as Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain, the Dubai Opera House, and the Old City of Dubai. The open glazing façade for each unit enables 384 high-end residences to enjoy sufficient sunlight and a fantastic night view and allows residents to have luxurious and comfortable private spaces within the downtown region.

Difficulties of model making

QZY MODELS OFFICIAL was commissioned by Dar Al Arkan to produce the physical display model of W Residences luxury apartment project. In order to fully present the complex structure and visual impact of the project, we had to overcome several difficulties: How to show the superior geographical location of the project within a limited proportion and scope of the physical model; How to accurately splice complex inner and outer structures and ensure the stability of super high-rise buildings which are composed by tens of thousands of elements; How to reasonably arrange and connect more than 1000 independently controlled circuit system and program them etc. In the face of these series of difficulties, QZY Models overcame the complexity of the project with our consistent rigorous attitude and professional technology within the limited construction period and successfully delivered the finished product to the customer.

Preliminary scheme discussion

The first step was to confirm the scope, scale, size of the product, and other basic model data with our customer, then design the displaying basement according to the exhibition hall information provided by the customer. After that we generated a series of conceptual sketches to show the whole aspects of our production: the 3D effect, the voice, and lighting system design, the circuit system, and the program control tablet device.

Test sample production

In the production process, the effect difference of the material performance, the dimension matching between different components, and the handmade result by different people would affect the entire project. Therefore, the production of a small size sample was the most effective method to ensure the effect of the final product. Although the cost of making a sample is quite high, we still insisted on spending 2 weeks for the sample production (the production cycle of the whole project is 4 weeks), during which we conducted a series of tests on the material presentation, the glass permeability, the interior and exterior light circuit, etc., to ensure the perfect outcome of the final model.

Final model fabrication

After confirming the effect of the sample with our customer, the responsible team started the production of the large one in a tight and orderly manner. Our project manager strictly controlled the project’s progress and quality, grasped every step, and timely found minor defects and made corrections for them.

Detail adjustment + circuit test

After the final model was basically completed, we spent a week finishing the details and debugging the circuit system. The circuit design complexity of this single high-rise building is extremely high. We provided the supporting programming of the tablet operating system for the light control and took 5 days to carry out a large number of light effect tests according to different requirements, which finally achieved customer satisfaction.
