New security vestibules for the Bank's 6th and 7th Streets main entrances were designed as part of the security upgrade program at the Federal Reserve Building in Philadelphia. They adress the Bank need to monitor employees and visitors accessing the building, recognizing that the bank is a business enterprise. The design of the new entrances required resolution of two conflicting issues, the need for security and the need to create a welcome and inviting entry for the employees and the visiting public.Sight lines were critical for both visitors and security personnel. Visitors orientation was a primary concern and security personnel needed full visibility of the entry from their stations. Each security vestibule contains 2 x-ray units for package screening, four magnetometers (walk through booth) for vistor screening and a centrally located guard station. The requirement of the FRB in Philadelphia was to create security without creating a sense of intimidation for visitors and employees.
